What can I say about this place aside from it was an amazing fabulous experience. The staff were unassuming but attentive. The food was out of this world. And, to top of our honeymoon experience we had a surprise bottle of champagne waiting for us on our second night, further we were surrounded by delightful interested guests which really made the few days we were there. The location is stunning, very relaxed and perfect for anyone wanting to wind down. We will definitely be back.

From the moment we arrived and were greeted by the lovely Linda we knew this was going to be special and it far exceeded expectation. Our bedroom had its own sitting room with an open turf fire which was lit for us daily. Divine. Chocolates on our first evening and a glass of Prosecco added to our enjoyment. Two evening meals were included in our tariff. The food was superb with an amazing choice. There was an excellent and fairly priced wine list. The breakfast was superb with a choice we have previously only encountered in a five* hotel! On one evening a play was put on in the library. It was really really good. Thanks to all the staff at Renvyle especially Linda. This hotel has won numerous awards and was featured in the Daily Telegraph in August this year. Now we know why. Can't wait to return.

My 2 sisters and I brought our mother for a 3 night stay for her 88th birthday and we all loved it. The location is stunning as is the Arts and Crafts building, yes it is a little dated, ( the lovely General Manager told us they are gradually upgrading and will be closing shortly for 5 weeks to upgrade reception areas and some more of the bedrooms) but everything else makes up for that. The food is excellent, staff could not be more attentive and pleasant. In short we left feeling special, that we had had a memorable few days and planning a return visit as soon as possible !

I have just read some of the other reviews and might I suggest that people who prefer not to be around children do not stay in family friendly hotel during school hoidays. I personally love being around children and look forward to bringing my grandson there.

Room Tip: There are rooms in a new bedroom block that are super. We did not stay in them but were shown them f...

Stayed for two nights to attend wedding. The food was consistently very good. The hotel is in a beautiful location. Rooms are ultra basic and dated. Very cold in room and no heat from radiator. Enquired at reception to be told the boiler was on a time clock. In any event they turned the heating on. Everything about the hotel is 1970's. Badly in need of an upgrade. Would not be inclined to stay again.

We booked this hotel because of its reputation as a place to chill out. The idea was that if the weather was bad it would be nice to curl up in an armchair in a nice lounge in front of a turf fire with a good book. Unfortunately not so. The hotel was full of families with young children and there were no restrictions on where they could go so there was no place to get a bit of peace and quiet. On one night I had to ring reception to ask if the children, unsupervised, in the playroom at 11.30, aged from 5 or 6 to approx. 9 could be collected by their parents so that other residents could get some sleep. No consideration by hotel staff and management to the needs of guests who did not have children.
The hotel is in a beautiful location and the food was very good. Rooms and central heating system very dated, no heat in radiators due to airlocks and gunge. No hot water one night to run a bath.
If one is looking for a quiet break away be wary of hotels which advertise themselves as "Family Friendly".

Room Tip: Do not take a room on the first floor which overlooks the roof of the children's playroom if you...

Great spot .
Beautiful location.
Best food I have had anywhere in Ireland.
Proprietor is very attentive. and ever present.
Bar is very lively, and good social spot.
Rooms are certainly dated.... Reminds me of my child hood.
A revamp this winter is planned- this should round it off .
Very pleasing overall.

This was my third visit to Renvyle and once again it wove its spell. The grounds are lovely and if its long peaceful walks you're after there is no better place. Even if you don't like walking you can stand on the shores of the hotel lake and watch the ducks and geese or stand on the shore of the nearby Atlantic and listen to the waves sweeping in on the pebbled beach - magic!
The food is excellent. Dinner is top class and breakfast may you leave you not wanting o eat for the rest of the day.
The staff are excellent. Nothing is too much trouble and they always have a friendly hello.
And then there's the turf fire in the lobby....
The bedrooms are on the small side but thats a small trade-off for everything else.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Renvyle House is a four star, historic country house, family owned and family run. It first opened as a hotel in 1883 and is spectacularly located on a 150 acre estate on the shores of the Wild Atlantic Way (midway point of the longest car touring route in the world!). Renvyle House is known for it’s “air of otherwordliness” which we believe is a strong and unique selling point and something of which we are very proud. Our emphasis is on customer service “friendly combined with professional” and we believe this plays a large part in why Renvyle enjoys over 55% repeat business. The hotel resort grounds include a private lake, a par 3 golf course, a beach, woodlands, gardens and numerous activities on site including tennis, croquet, outdoor heated swimming pool & Canadia Hot Tub which overlokks the Atlantic (summer months), fly-fishing, canoeing and more. Renvyle House is also well known for it’s good food and this is as much due to the locally sourced fresh produce (lamb, fish, vegetables and herbs from our own garden) as to Tim O’Sullivan’s expertise in the kitchen (Tim is our award winning Executive Chef). Renvyle House always has a warm welcome guaranteed for every guest. ... more   less
