The hotel is located in one of the loveliest places in Ireland with a beautiful beach and gorgeous surroundings. We had stayed previously here a number of years ago and so were looking forward to returning. However we were disappointed with the overall service - the hotel had a wedding on one of the nights of our stay and three weddings in the previous week. While the wedding during our stay did not impact on us (the wedding party seemed like a lovely group) but the staff appeared overworked and tired. I felt embarrassed having to complain to one of the waitresses when we waited 20 minutes for our tea at breakfast as she was clearly exhausted. While we had no compaints with the quality of the food which was really good, we did not feel that the personal service we receievd 10 years ago was replicated.

Room Tip: Look for a seaview.

Dear MaryHanora,

Thank you for staying with us recently and for taking the time to write your review. We are happy that you enjoyed the quality of food at dinner. We apologise for the delay of your tea at breakfast on one morning this is certainly not the norm.

Our General Manager is present around the hotel public areas both in the morning and evening every day and tries to meet and welcome each and every of our guests. Our staff are trained to be subtle and helpful, the majority of our guests appreciate this manner whilst on holidays.

We hope you may visit us again in the future so that you can experience the Renvyle you remember.

With kind regards,
Zoe

What a beautiful hotel , so relaxing ,so comfortable , such good food , cant understand the clown annmur 2 or 3 comments below saying hotel is overated thank god i didnt take her comment too serious, the comfort and food were something to behold , the relaxing atmosphere around the hotel is something that cant be found in the modern conglomerates that exist in ireland and probably in that womans review below this is what they are used too. the more renvyle house hotels around ireland the better .

Had a really lovely stay here recently, didn't know what to expect as my partner had booked it and I wasn't disappointed. Relaxed atmosphere, excellent food and very helpful staff, won't be the last time we stay here.

This is a lovely place to escape to and get away from it all in the West of Ireland. Right on the sea with a small golf course and nice walks along with tennis courts, fishing etc., it really is a perfect place to relax. There was even a free dramatisation of excerpts from Synge's The Aran Islands. The food was exemplary. I will most definitely return.

I have stayed in this hotel many times over the years and recently I enjoyed a return visit. It is located in a most picturesque area, with the hotel offering a very comfortable stay. The staff are very pleasent and accomodating. This place has a very old world charm about it. The restaurent offers a very nice range to choose from and it is cooked to perfection. It is reasonably priced.Only negative is that the rooms need to be freshened up as they are getting a little tired but still adequate.

I really cannot understand why this hotel is rated so high, apart from the location there is nothing spectacular about this place. Bedrooms need a major facelift for a start. Ensuites are tiny.
I had been there about 10 years ago and absolutely nothing has been updated since then. We were attending a wedding there and decided to stay the night before. We got a special offer for 2 nights bed and breakfast and 1 evening meal. Food was sub standard, very soft creamed potatoes, and small amount of brocalli. I went for the rack of lamb which was tough,( I dont think it was this years spring lamb??

The wedding the next day was beautiful, due to the beautiful sunshine and we were able to sit outside until the meal at 6.30 but when we went to the dining room I was shocked to see the famous lamb on the menu again. All in all idont think I have any wish to stay there again

Dear annemur,

Thank you for your review, it is important for us to get everyone's perspective of their stay.

I can assure you over the last 10 years all the bedrooms have been refurbished to the 1920's architectural style of the 'Arts and Crafts' movement of the old house. This era of architecture and decoration is a rare example in Ireland using clean, simple lines. The furniture is solid Irish oak all made locally, the fabrics are woven in Co. Tipperary and carpets sourced within Ireland. This is the ethos of this movement to which the hotel owners have maintained over the 60 years, keeping jobs within Ireland and keeping the character of the house as it was when it was rebuilt after the Civil War. I appreciate that it may not be to everyone's liking but it is the style of this historic house.

The wedding menu would have been chosen by the Bride and Groom who would have sampled various courses on a previous visit to us prior to their wedding and discussed everything with Cillian and Tim. It was this year's Connemara Spring Lamb.

I hope you enjoyed the happy celebrations and had a safe return journey home.
With kind regards,
Zoe

Just back from a short honeymoon break in Renvyle. Can't rate this hotel highly enough for the customer service, food, location and relaxing atmosphere. All of the special touches from the staff made our honeymoon even more special and it was great to be treated so well as tourists in our own country! A special mention to the restaurant staff who couldn't have been more helpful when I was feeling unwell on our first night. The restaurant managers were exceptionally friendly and professional. This was our second visit to Renvyle and we cannot wait to return again soon.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Renvyle House is a four star, historic country house, family owned and family run. It first opened as a hotel in 1883 and is spectacularly located on a 150 acre estate on the shores of the Wild Atlantic Way (midway point of the longest car touring route in the world!). Renvyle House is known for it’s “air of otherwordliness” which we believe is a strong and unique selling point and something of which we are very proud. Our emphasis is on customer service “friendly combined with professional” and we believe this plays a large part in why Renvyle enjoys over 55% repeat business. The hotel resort grounds include a private lake, a par 3 golf course, a beach, woodlands, gardens and numerous activities on site including tennis, croquet, outdoor heated swimming pool & Canadia Hot Tub which overlokks the Atlantic (summer months), fly-fishing, canoeing and more. Renvyle House is also well known for it’s good food and this is as much due to the locally sourced fresh produce (lamb, fish, vegetables and herbs from our own garden) as to Tim O’Sullivan’s expertise in the kitchen (Tim is our award winning Executive Chef). Renvyle House always has a warm welcome guaranteed for every guest. ... more   less
