Just back from a few days break in Renvyle. Turned out to be more than I expected! We travelled as a group of six - three couples and we were looking for some R&R. That is exactly what we got. Because you are not near a big town we were not tempted with shops. Instead we took in some walks by the beach and the golf course. We chatted with the locals and got some history of the area.
We visited Kylemore Abbey on one of our short trips and took the tour of the open rooms. Got the history of the abbey and visited the Gothic Church and the walled gardens. What a super place to spend the day
We also visited Letterfrack and saw first hand the boys graveyard ...... children who had been in the industrial school and died while in the care of the brothers there. We had heard all the stories on radio/television and the newspapers but seeing it first hand really makes it real.
After our outings we returned to the hotel each day and dinner!!! Now that was a treat and I can understand why the hotel has won so many awards. The menu changed each day while we were there and the biggest problem we had was in choosing.
Clearly the staff help to make this hotel and our visit so memorable. Every person we came in contact with from the front desk, the bar, the restaurant and housekeeping were friendly and welcoming.
The weather was also kind to us. Friday was the only bad day but we were leaving so didn't mind too much!!! Will definitely be going back again.

Room Tip: Had a room in the newer part of the hotel and a great few of the mountains and sea.

Just spent two nights in the beautiful Renvyle House Hotel set in a little oasis of peace and tranquility between the rugged beauty of the surrounding Connemara hills and the Atlantic Ocean, just a stones throw away. I had heard so much about this historic hotel over the years that it had become one of our "must see" places and it certainly didn't disappoint. The hotel consists of a fine old house, which was once the home of Oliver StJohn Gogarty, and which has been renovated and extended for the comfort of weary travellers. In its time the old house played host to many of our most distinguished literary figures, W B Yeats and James Joyce to name but two. Today it is an unique combination of old and new, but with the emphasis on preserving the finer qualities of life gone by. Here you can enjoy simple pleasures such as sitting in a comfortable chair beside any of the many turf fires throughout the hotel, reading some of the old books in the library or having a drink in the bar without the intrusion of either television or radio. If gourmet food is your weakness then the restaurant will certainly please, for we found the cuisine excellent, especially the fish dishes, and local produce is used to the maximum. The bar menu is also to be recommended. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They go about their business efficiently and with the minimum of fuss, which greatly adds to the feeling of relaxation in the whole place. Our room was a decent size, was clean, bright, warm and well maintained, which contributed in no small way to our very enjoyment. Everyone was very friendly and despite less than perfect weather we found plenty to do. Just one minor comment of a negative nature - personally, I would have liked a pool with sauna and steam room - there is an outdoor pool but naturally it is only for Summer use. Overall, however, I can only think of good things to say about this hotel, very relaxing, very friendly, great food and drink and good value - keep it up Ronnie - we hope to make the long journey back some time.

This big hotel is located in an area of scenic beauty, by the sea. We spent two days in a comfortable and clean room. The surroundings invited us to do several enjoyable walks. Inside, there are several places to sit comfortably and relax, including a nice conservatory. The staff is friendly and attentive. The cuisine has won several awards, and we enjoyed a superb dinner as it was expected. Our experience was memorable. It is worth a stop on a Connemara trip.

Room Tip: I think the best rooms and the best views are in the new wing.

We hope you had a safe return journey home to Argentina. Did you get a chance to visit Foxford in Co. Mayo as it has very strong connections with Argentina?

In all, I found the Renvyle House a pleasant experience. The staff were most helpful, the room we were assigned, was at the end of the newly constructed wing and had a great view of the ocean alas the weather had pulled a curtain of rain over the beautiful scenery. The room itself had its own fire. Which was very cool, I have to say. The arts and craft decor added to the experience obviously it's a pity that this style did not transfer to the event room. If it's not broken don't fix it.
I cannot finish this review without mentioning the food. The restaurant which doubles for the breakfast room is straight out of a fairytale with its wallpaper and parquet flooring. The food is definitely not so dated and was thoroughly enjoyed, I do recommend the house red as I also recommend this dining experience. The next morning we also enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant and we were encouraged to pick from the breakfast menu a custom I heartily encourage any hotel to adopt. It’s just that little something extra that doesn't cost much.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my short stay at the Renvyle House although I have a but and just a small butt :-) .I do have a non gluten dietary requirement. oodlums white bread mix that all I am saying, Ok that wasn't too big a butt was it. Pick the time you stay as in summer holidays and contact them before you book to make sure there are no weddings or parties. Hotels cannot read your mind.

Room Tip: if they have a quiz make sure its quiz and not an IQ test :-) If you dietary requirements let them...

I would highly recommend Renvyle - from the moment of arrival until we checked out, the service was excellent - lovely friendly and helpful staff. The food is beyond excellent.

The grounds and location are really beautiful with lovely peaceful walks and also the fun ones for children to enjoy through the wooded area and little playground - not to mention the very exciting feeding of ducks with bread very kindly offered by hotel staff for them.

Well done to all the team in Renvyle - accommodation, reservations, reception, kitchen, bar, restaurant etc.

All in all - excellent - there will certainly be a return visit in the future

Thank You All

We are delighted you enjoyed your break with us. The ducks are such a 'hit' with our younger guests, and the grounds are great for them too as they do feel like they are exploring (within parental sight!).
We look forward to welcoming you all back again in the future.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Renvyle House is a four star, historic country house, family owned and family run. It first opened as a hotel in 1883 and is spectacularly located on a 150 acre estate on the shores of the Wild Atlantic Way (midway point of the longest car touring route in the world!). Renvyle House is known for it’s “air of otherwordliness” which we believe is a strong and unique selling point and something of which we are very proud. Our emphasis is on customer service “friendly combined with professional” and we believe this plays a large part in why Renvyle enjoys over 55% repeat business. The hotel resort grounds include a private lake, a par 3 golf course, a beach, woodlands, gardens and numerous activities on site including tennis, croquet, outdoor heated swimming pool & Canadia Hot Tub which overlokks the Atlantic (summer months), fly-fishing, canoeing and more. Renvyle House is also well known for it’s good food and this is as much due to the locally sourced fresh produce (lamb, fish, vegetables and herbs from our own garden) as to Tim O’Sullivan’s expertise in the kitchen (Tim is our award winning Executive Chef). Renvyle House always has a warm welcome guaranteed for every guest. ... more   less
