...because this place is so amazing, I'd rather keep it a secret. Lots of the negative comments in some of the other reviews are true (many more are not), but these people are missing the point. I agree that some of the staff could be friendlier and yes, some of the niceties you find in other hotel rooms at this price are missing e.g. decanter of sherry, fresh fruit, bath robes etc., but these shortcomings are more than made up for in the setting, the river, the walks, the amazing food and most importantly, the Guinness and oysters!

We've been to Ballynahinch 6 times now and it's become our Ireland getaway of choice. Pricey, but brilliant.

This castle is a little out of the way on twisty, very scenic, winding roads. Watch for the sheep grazing along side of the road. They do not dart out like deer, they just keep grazing. You will find some actually on the road also. Ballynahinch Castle is worth the visit. My daughter and I had a room with two twin beds which we found to be a little crowded. They have free Wi-Fi and free parking. They do not have clocks in the room. If you like to get away from the rush of traffic and want quiet tranquility this is the place to be. We walked the River walking path in the evening and found it to be picturesque and relaxing. If you do not want to explore on your own, they have a 2 hours guided tour also. The Owenmore restaurant is high quality, and could cost 60 euros each. The Fisherman's Pub has good food also We had the rib-eye and it was excellent.
Drinks at dinner are expensive. We had a Jameson Whisky, with ginger ale with a twist of lime and it cost, 11.80 euro. We did enjoy our stay though. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: We found our room to be a little crowded. We are a mother/daughter and had 2 twin beds.

For our second trip to Ireland, we had an agenda. We were traveling with our teenage grandaughter and a castle was on the "to do" list. We put the decision in the hands or our booking service, Exploring Ireland, and they were spot on. Ballynahinch is a little challenging to find, but so worth it. There are 360 degree vistas in Connemara. The room was truly lovely and very clean. The staff was terrific and the breakfast room overlooked a stream that seemed right out of a painting. We had a great dinner in the bar the night before and loved the atmosphere. Highly recommended.

we just love ballynahinch. The food in the bar on a Saturday night is something special, it is what you get in the dining room but the atmosphere of the live music and roaring fire is just so special.
We went this time last year for our 10th wedding anniversary, we went to Verona this year which was also special, but Ballynahinch really is worth the trip, just sitt back relax and let the river mesmorise you! it is a little bit pricy compared to other 5 star hotels but there is just something special.

Room Tip: river view, ground floor

From beginning to end, our stay at Ballynahinch was perfect. A stunning location, luxurious rooms, spacious bathroom and fantastic food. The staff was attentive.....especially in the restaurant. We only stayed one night, but if I ever get a chance, I will go back for a much longer stay. Be sure and take the walks in the brochure..........the grounds are magical.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view.

My husband and I stayed there for 6 days before Easter. It is a truly special place. The staff could not do enough for us and made our stay a memorable one. The restaurant serves wonderful, hearty breakfasts and dinners and delicious food is served in the relaxed bar throughout the day. The fires throughout the hotel welcomed us after our daily walks in the beautifully maintained grounds. Sad to leave but we will be back soon!
