Stayed here for 4 nights and was delighted the friendliness of the staff was excellent along with there local knowledge. The room and decor was grand and the public areas were oldie world with lovely log fires. Breakfast was a lovely relaxing affair with a large variety. The grounds that the hotel sits in have well laid out paths along the river and lake. The local area has some of the best scenery in Ireland and a lot of interesting places to visitor within easy reach

We have just returned from a 2 night break in the Castle. we stayed 12th/13th March and had dinner included in our package. We were upgraded to a superior room which was huge, fab and overlooked the lake. There were 4 Log fires going at night time so plenty of choice for a comfortable drink either before or after dinner. On our second night, we dined in the Pub. The food was equally as good as the restaurant but obviously more casual dining. We loved our trip, the lovely walks surrounding the castle, our trips to Roundstone, Cashel and Clifden. What a lovely piece of heaven. We will return!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed or three nights in this lovely old hotel. We had thought that at this time of year the place might be a bit cold but from the roaring log fires in the public rooms to our lovely cosy bedroom we were very pleasantly surprised. There is a wonderful walk from the hotel along the now disused railway to Clifden. We misheard another guest talking about it and thought the return trip was 3 hrs. So we left the hotel in good time, or so we thought, to be ensconced in a nice pub in Clifden to watch the Six Nations rugby on Saturday at 2.30pm. Over three hours later we were still walking and eventually arrived exhausted at Griffins Bar where we revived ourselves with delicious seafood chowder and Guinness. We even got a great seat to watch the remains of the match on the big screen. The walk was fabulous, but go prepared with good boots as it can be a bit wet and muddy in places. The views and peace were just amazing. The only sounds were from birds and running water. After the match we decided to get a taxi back to the hotel which cost 15 Euros, money well spent as we couldn't face another 3 hour walk on the same day. Back at the hotel we felt like we had come home. It has such a great atmosphere and the staff are so welcoming.

Room Tip: We treated ourselves to a luxury room on the first floor. It was just lovely and the bed was huge a...

A welcoming, old fashioned and so so comfortable house. More than a mere hotel. Back in time in space but not in service and in so beautiful a setting. The service was short on pomp but heavy on personal. The rooms were spacious and so comfortable and the bar was a real bar with atmosphere.

Room Tip: Don't go for the spa, the swimming pool, the professionally designed golf course, or the "...

The road from Oughterard to Ballynahinch sets the tone for this wonderful charming hotel. The staff are so friendly and helpful and give you a warm Irish welcome and can not do enough for you .
Just stayed the one night and dinner was again excellent followed by music in the bar, a fab breakfast and coffee in one of the lovely rooms with complimentary paper.
The room each visit has been different and they are so comfy and warm. A walk around the grounds is a must. Everything is so laid back and relaxing.

Ballynahinch Castle is around an hours drive from Galway into the wilds of Connemara. The castle itself is full of old world charm. The walls are covered with photogtaphs with a particular focus on the castle's storied history and on the angling facilities We were there in November so the lovely smell of turf fires welcomed us on arival. The rooms were quite modern having been updated since our last visit a number of years ago. Another change was the welcome addition of wi-fi (well we were on a work related trip). The food was, as always fantastic with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. The staff were very welcoming and really couldn't do enough for us.
I just love this place and would highly recommend it for the ultimate get-way-from it all weekend.

My favourite hotel... My wife and I have visited here 4 or 5 times in past 10 years and love the hotel, the restaurant and the setting. I've never have the chance to fish but look forward to that one day.

All aspects of the restaurant - breakfast, dinner and tea are excellent with great views of the river a treat.

Staff and management are very professional.

Afternoon tea and coffee with silver service a real treat in the library or lounge.........

Highly recommends for any one seeking a quiet weekend, romantic weekend or an outdoor weekend of fishing or hiking.

Some of the rooms are more modern than others - recommend to ask for a riverside suite if you want to splash out!!

Room Tip: Try the riverside suite for a treat.
