“Set the scene for a memorable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2009

We had booked a long week-end and the location was superb...a few hundred metres from the pier.We were met at the ferry with a warm greeting and taken straight to the hotel. It really is a lovely setting and the glass-fronted entrance is in character with the setting.Check-in was pleasant and prompt and we had a wonderful sea-view room with shared balcony. The room was modern, tastefully furnished, but small.Downside was the diminutive TV (appreciate thats the last thing one visits Bofin for but on wild, wet days....?)
We had several exchanges with the manager,Adrian who was very knowledgable and extremely helpful for walks, fishing, places of interest, etc.Other staff members (most locals) were also extremely pleasant and full of chat.Mike on the bar was great.Have to say we also encountered 2 foreigner staff and they were very chatty and friendly.
Bofin is just the most chilling place both of us have ever been - just total relaxation. There are so many walks for such a small island;scenery is magnificent - wild, exposed and rugged. We also found a couple of stunning beaches. But really the overall appeal of the island is one of relaxation lots of fresh air!!
The impressive firstfloor "library" which is a cosy ands tasteful lounge area overlooking the harbour sea and hills is just breath-taking and a great place to sit back and chill.
The hotel was perfectly placed for walks in every direction, and also had the nearby Days Pub for a change for a few jars!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but would make a few genuine observations;the restaurant was very expensive for what it was and certainly a mid-week special at least 35-40% below its set price would certainly help attract more diners.
Newspapers in the library would be very welcome.
A more varied and enticing breakfast lay-out (and menu) would be very appealing.
Tea & coffee making facilities in the bedroom would be welcomed!
However, the plus-points far outweigh these.Hotel was so warm & friendly and we have already planned another visit.
Really would recommend this to anyone.

Booked this hotel for a group of 16 for the weekend, so was expecting a good few glitches as large group arriving. Hotel no length from pier and shuttle bus arrived and took all bags to the hotel. Location of hotel fantastic, and room had view of the bay from the balcony. TV in room.. a bit on the small side, and channels not all present.. but then you look out the window and remember why you chose inishbofin, to be out and about. Ordered food for lunchtime, and food was not the best in the bar, and the 1 bar staff was run off his feet (a helping hand needed), but staff extremely friendly and welcoming.
We then went down for evening dinner, the food for our 3 course dinner was excellent and enjoyed by everyone at the table, also our dinner was not rushed by the staff and we were in there from 8pm till midnight!! Our wine glasses were never empty and not one order was forgotten.. Danny deserves a big mention for his excellent service.
Alot of the group had to leave following day, but again staff continuously helpfull and welcoming at any hour of the day.
From our group of 16, alot of us commenting that they would definitely return again to this hotel for its relaxed atmosphere, food and excellent service and of course the location. Definitely recommend this to a friend!

Myself and my husband have just returned from a weekend break on Inishbofin. We found the hotel very comfortable and the staff very friendly. We ate in the restaurant and the bar and found the food very good and very affordable in the bar. Staff were mostly Irish with a very friendly French waiter and Polish girl in the restaurant. Having read last years reviews the night before travelling to Inishbofin I was really afraid of having an awful weekend but glad to say we will return.

Me and my girfriend (both in our 30's) booked a midweek break here for a short romantic getaway.
It looks like a fine hotel for a remote and natural place but it had some serious problems.
It's not a cheap place but you don't mind paying for quality.
Quality was rare on our visit
We arrived on the quay with a bit of luggage and there was a courtesy bus but no driver,so what the heck we walked, it's only 200m
The receptionist was foreign and pleasant looking but a bit nervous of us and not terribly welcoming and immediately we felt uncomfortable.
There were only a few people staying in the hotel and many times during the week she asked to see my room card as I passed reception to go to our room.
I could only get upstairs if I had a room key and I had only just spoken to her only a few hours before.

There was a group of students who had just finished exams and had come over for a break and a bit of a drinking session and the staff were more interested in hanging out with them than serving guests.
One of the students was very loud, crude and oblivious to other people but they continued to serve him drink after drink.
Many times as they lounged on the grass I had to gently hint to the staff on duty that we were looking to order some food or drinj at the bar.
We often waited and waited and waited.

Our first meal was in the same bar..there was 2 of us..no one else around, and yet the order was wrong and my girlfriend ended up with a dish she never ordered.
We ended up spending an hour waiting for food all 2 of us.

We paid for a balcony room..but as you looked out there was a glitch on the lawn in front..loud drunk students and when they left, the aftermath.
There were empy bottles and glasses all over the lawn for 3 days.
In all asking for anything was a chore..we both felt like we would be bothering them if we asked for anything as that is the signal they gave off...No smiles or small talk..just what do you want..hurry up we're doing something else.
We had to ask twice for our room to be made up and yes this was done graciously..
The big foreign man serving us at breakfast was a breath of fresh air..he was so professional and very comfortatable with us and was really friendly
Sadly we only ever saw him in the morning.

For such a lovely Island it's hard to believe it could be so impersonable in what was advertised to be a top class hotel also charging top prices.
The staff knew little about this small Island and we just bought a map and found our own way.
To top all this and many more problems.. (there was more.).
At check out, a new guy we'd never seen before put 100 euro extra VAT on our bill..It only dawned on us as we left and examined the bill and in any case my polite girl just wanted to get home without any confrontation.

We will defintely go back to Bofin but I think we'll try a B+B next time..

Went to Inishbofin on the spur of the moment for a one night stay. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were in the "simple/modern" design, but were very comfortable. The bathroom amenities were excellent and the mattress very comfortable. As for the food it was very good. We had dinner and breakfast there. The dinner we both had lobster with a pernod saffron sauce and it was quite good. The seafood starters we had were also very good. Decent wine list, and priced fairly (excepting the awful dollar to euro exchange rate). Breakfast was a standard "full Irish" and was fine. Regarding the service, the Irish staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. Some of the other staff from Eastern Europe were efficient and helpful, but not terribly friendly. We were not sure whether it was their lack of proficiency with English or simply cultural differences. Service was fine, but compared to their Irish counterparts they simply were not as warm. This seems to be an issue through out Ireland in that it is difficult to get Irish born workers in the hospitality industry. We would definitely go back there, great walks and a lovely island.

I had ocassion to book a meal for six people in the restaurant of Day's Hotel in the first week in August. We were not staying in the hotel but had stayed there before and were looking foreward to our night out. I phoned inadvance to book a table and was informed that we would have to be there by six thirty. After some discussion on the time they agreed to fit us in at seven.(We assumed that there must be two sittings).

On our arrival we tried to have a drink in the Bar but wre whisked to our table. The restaurant was only half full but we thought that it would fill up shortly. (It never did). The food was a huge disappointment and was over priced for what it was.Its presentation was good but it was quite tasteless. The staff seemed anxious to have everybody out of the restaurant as quickly as possible.

For the rest of our holiday on InishBofin we dined in "the opposition restaurants" where you could book a civilised time to eat, and which were far more interested in pleasing the customer. Day's Hotel will need to improve a lot before I could consider booking it again.

Having visited Inishbofin on numerous occasions in rented accommodation, we decided to stay in Inishbofin House for a weekend. We were not disappointed. The hotel is under a new general manager who personally welcomed us. Restaurant and bar management are of an excellent standard. The staff (despite other opinions) were very professional, very courteous and very friendly. The room in which we stayed was modern, spacious and comfortable. The food, as always, was wonderful and made more so by a location that is on a par with the best the world has to offer. We will most certainly be back .Thanks to all concerned.
