“Inishboffin, a magic island!”
Reviewed July 17, 2014

My wife and I are just back from a few days holiday on the island of Inishboffin. From the time we alighted the ferry to the time we departed two days later, we enjoyed a truly unique experience. We lodged at the popular and very comfortable Inishboffin Hotel & Spa. From the warm welcome we received on arrival in the guise of the talented and much travelled Niall Coffey General Manager and his friendly and good natured team of experienced staff at the hotel, we set about exploring the secrets of Inishboffin for the next two days. Weather-wise, expect many seasons in one day and come suitably equipped, you won't be disappointed. We stayed in a lovely room overlooking the harbour. First night started out with a good dinner in the hotel where we enjoyed the singing talents of a man called Buck who shared a stage with James Taylor and other singing greats in another time. Where would you get it? I suppose there's not that much to do on the island except walk and soak up the spectacular scenery. Bring a few good books. If you're into snorkeling and diving, there's lots of that available. There's also great sandy beaches to be found where it's safe to swim. Also we found at least two particularly good lively pubs. Check out Murray's and The Beach. We got lucky on our first night at Murray's to encounter a stag party made up of a great bunch of lads, musicians and song writers who entertained a full house of locals and blow-ins like ourselves late into the night. After this experience, we're now both resolved to visit the other inhabited islands along the coast of Ireland as soon as we next get the chance. I'm not sure we'll have as much fun as we did at Inishboffin and that's thanks especially to Niall Coffey and his crew at the Inishboffin Hotel & Spa. See you soon.

Room Tip: Check out the sea views rooms, worth the extra expanse

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to place a review on TripAdvisor.

Were delighted you enjoyed an evening with Buck Taylor and the delights of Inishbofin island.

We received fantastic feedback about Buck and look forward to welcoming him back again before the end of the season.

Indeed we do hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you and your family back to the magical island of Inishbofin very soon.

Safe travels.

Kind Regards,
Niall.

Just back from this wonderful hotel ! My nephew Mike and Pearl
had their wedding reception there and from start to finish everyone couldn't have been nicer ! They picked us up from the ferry and from then on nothing was a problem ! Niall and Constantine were wonderful looking after all requests with a smile . The wedding was on a beach 25 minutes away and they did their best to get us all there on time in the wonderful ' taxis' it was a wonderful venue
for the wedding ... View spectacular
food very good everything great ! The rooms were lovely and cleaned every day ! My one suggestion to Niall would be to make the front bar
a bit more like a pub than maybe a hotel bar ... Hard to do but just a suggestion ... Not a criticism ! Thank you all and we will be returning ! ...Una Heneghan

From the moment we stepped from the ferry and a bus was there to take our luggage to the nearby hotel and again on leaving this was superb.
the manager Niall was everywhere to ensure everything ran smoothly for our stay.
The weather was excellent and walks around the Island built up a good thirst!
No mobile phones work in the Hotel, but far from the end of the world!
Will return again.

This Hotel really is a hidden gem. The location is spectacular and the staff were super friendly.
Food was 5 out of 5 across the board.
Me and my Husband really couldn't fault anything about our stay and we will definitely be back.
Serious value for money.

This hotel is still lovely and the staff are fabulous they can not do enough for you especially. The manager - think he is called Niall. It is so well kept inside and out. We had visited 2 years ago and we loved it and so we had wanted to return. The big change we saw was in the food - when we visited before the food was outstanding this time it was just ok. We had fish and chips the last time we were there and we were looking forward to it again but we were told there was none on the menu - so we were very disappointed but went next door to The Beach - food was lovely. I think that the menu in the hotel needs to be looked at. We ate in the restaurant and I felt it was overpriced for what we received 18.50 is very expensive for beef stroganoff which although very nice didn't come with a salad or garnish. Also the chips with the other mains were frozen.
Overall the hotel staff made up for the food and I would return as it is a really great hotel. Thanks to all the wonderful staff.

The location of this Hotel is spectacular and is the key selling point of this hotel. For us that was really the only positive about this place. Staff were nice and cheerful upon arrival, even if one member was more concerned about their phone call to Revenue than they were about greeting us and checking us in (or rather inform us that our room wouldn't be ready for a while).

I have to say that the rooms are basic for the amount paid for them, there's no tea/coffee facility in the rooms which is almost a given in this day and age in any hotel and you then have to pay €2.50 for a coffee in the bar. We asked about the tea/coffee facility the day of arrival and we were told that there was none in the rooms, when we mentioned this at departure to a different member of staff she politely told us that we could have requested it !!!

Breakfast is disorganized chaos, understaffed and customers ended up busing the tables in order to hurry up proceedings. A suggestion would be to change the breakfast duration from 8-10 to 8-11 which would put less pressure on staff as guests would be less inclined to rush for breakfast at the same time. Perhaps the introduction of self service Tea/Coffee would greatly help the under pressure staff.

The bus service is a nice touch as it allows patrons to have their bags delivered to and from the Hotel to the Ferry, i would advise management to be more visual and active as this place badly needs leadership. Concentrate a lot more on the hotel side of things and less on up-selling treatments in the spa.

Room Tip: Call and haggle the price as in this instance you don't get what you pay for.

Half an hour on the boat, a walk to the hotel, a greeting like they were welcoming us back although we had not been to the island before..... we loved it. You can relax on the chairs outside in the sun or lay on the grass..... you can hire a bike like we did and see the beautiful beaches the island has to offer, you can let the kids run around as there are only a few cars on the island.....

The island is so relaxing, free and with hardly any mobile phone coverage with was great!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: A view if possible but only if you are going to spend time in the room.
