“So friendly”
Reviewed April 27, 2011

I have just returned from this gorgeous hotel where I stayed for the past three days with my husband and teenage son . I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about this hotel . We were given a lovely big room with a sea view . Beds extremely comfortable . Hot showers with great pressure . Spotlessly clean etc . Everything lived up to our expectations . The food in the dining -room was lovely , service couldn't have been better . The two waitresses Kat and Laura were so efficient and so pleasant . Nothing was too much trouble for them .
We arrived at quite a busy time and you could see that the staff were under a lot of pressure but their genuine warmth and friendliness is what stood out for me . The girls in charge , Clare and Kathleen were just so kind and helpful . They were superb at their jobs and are just genuinely nice people . Any guest I happened to speak to seemed delighted with the hotel and the whole experience .
When we arrived we were given so much information about the island , what to do and where to go , where to hire bicycles etc . We wanted to get a tour of the island from one of the locals and Clare very kindly fixed us up with a guide called Billy . This tour turned out to be the highlight of our stay as Billy brought us to places totally off the beaten track where the scenery was indescribably beautiful , places that tourists would normally never get to see . I would definitely recommend a tour with Billy - it's an experience not to be missed . But be warned , wear very sturdy walking shoes because there's a lot of walking over very rough terrain , rocks etc ! We were exhausted at the end of the tour but it was an unforgettable experience .
So , yes - I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend . The staff are just amazing and go out of their way to make sure that their guest are happy . We certainly were !

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your experience of staying with us at Inishbofin House Hotel. Customer feedback is of utmost importance to us. We're delighted that you enjoyed your stay so much.

The sea view rooms do offer a spectacular view of the harbour. Bike or guided tour are both great ways of getting around and experiencing what the island has to offer. Inishbofin genuinely is a beautiful location.

We hope you can make a trip back to see us again sometime soon.

I'm just back from staying out on Inishbofin with my husband, who treated me to a weekend over Easter.
There is a Minibus bringing guests from the ferry to the hotel but we decided to walk the 3 minutes down the road and beat the queues to check in.

On arrival, very pleasant staff checked us in very swiftly but our room was still being cleaned when we got there so we had to dump our bags and leave again which was ok, it was a busy weekend. We then proceeded to the bar for some lunch but it seemed the girl waitressing was just learning and we waited 45 minutes until our food came...AFTER our order went to someone else... The bar food was goo but the home made burger certainly didn't taste home made...nothing to write home about.

The bedrooms are spotless, but no tea or coffee facilities so if you fancy a quick brew you have to go down and pay for one in the bar, shower pressure is wonderful but the water takes ages to get hot, a good 15 minutes. there is no such thing as soundproofing, there were kids staying on their own in a room opposite us and decided they wanted to 'play' in the corodor at 2am, running up and down, screeching and laughing but if you are to ring reception to ask them to pipe down, there is nobody on duty. Every foottep on the floor above could be heard and an American couple with very elevated voices never stopped talking and 'shouting' all night so on my last night there, I would say I got 4 hours sleep maybe? The fusebox in the room also buzzes very veryyy loudly until you take the key card out of the slot but by then you have no electricity to say charge your phone or watch tv. The beds are standard double and a double duvet so there is not alot of room for couples to share a bed really, most hotels have king size. two channels on the TV and a shared balcony/veranda so if you have your blinds open there isn't a lot of privacy.

The worst thing about this hotel is that there seemed to be just 5 or 6 staff operating the hotel, on our first morning , having breakfast, there was a buffet and although we arrived very early, there wasnt much, no eggs and when they finally arrived the yolk was raw and loads of that clear runny egg white, we weren't asked if we wanted coffee or tea until our breakfast was over and then 10 minutes after she ordered asked what it was we ordered again... breakfast is ok, yogurt, cereal mini Danish and pain au chocolat and the makings of an Irish breakfast but everything was undercooked.
When we had dinner, we waited an hour after our starter while people who came after us finished their whole meal...like we had to wait for the beef to actually slow braise itself, the staff are very friendly but a couple of them seem so nervous... it's like they're trying to do way too much for the number of staff they have, the hotel was thronged all weekend.

I didn't use the Spa because the prices were quite high averaging €60 a treatment but everything you do there costs money so bring a lot with you if you go....

The barman was such a lovely man, he really knows his stuff and made great cocktails for us so that was one of the highlights, however expensive they were...about €15 a pop.

If you plan to go, I recommend Day's bar next door too, that's where all the craic (fun) is, all the locals can be found there with trad music and cute bartenders, food in there isn't too bad during the day but it's just soup and sandwiches they do really. The Cromwellian castle is a must see, we decided to walk and it takes a good 90 minutes to walk out through really rough terrain, over a mountain and through some really deep marsh so my shoes went in the bin after. but it was beautiful, wildlife can be seen (wild geese, hawks, hares and corncrakes) we even saw what we thought was a dead porpoise, washed up on the beach, it had been there weeks. The castle is only accessible during low tide when the sand bar becomes exposed and you can walk accross, the hotel tell you the only way is via the beach outside the hotel but if you walk up the hill, there is a steep road that set's you on your way.

Back to the hotel, it is a beautiful spot, don't get me wrong, just don't allow yourself get really hungry before you eat or else you will die of hunger waiting for staff to come. Don't come if you are like me and don't like kids running about and being noisy cause they are there-IN ABUNDANCE. Any your sleep quality wont be great.

We're going to try the Dolphin Hotel next time or somewhere pet friendly because its a heavenly place if you have a dog and loads seem to come over on the ferry (but where do they stay??)

Room Tip: sea view or else you are facing a dark mud wall.

We got married on Inishbofin at the end of August with the reception at Inishbofin House Hotel. The overall experience was out of this world. The staff could not have done enough for us, the location is stunning and the food was fantastic. Our guests said it was one of the best wedding they had ever been too. Thanks to Colin, Claire, Cora, Simon & Tony for all their hard work. The island is magical, with beautiful walks, beaches and pubs. The great thing about the island is, once you are there you don't need to worry about anything, everything is on your doorstep.

If I could capture my husbands and my experience in the Inishbofin House hotel in one word it would be AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

We got married on Friday the 28th of May and had just over 100 people come to the island with us.

Colin the manager met us in Dublin where we hatched out our menu. He had a job on his hands between the vegans, vegetarians and then throw the odd person with a severe dairy or mushroom allergy into the mix. Given all this Colin catered to our every little whim with a smile.

He kept in touch with us throughout the months leading to the wedding and we did not have to worry about one single thing going wrong. He thought of everything and made our wedding a total non-stress free event.

The hotel is overlooking a natural harbor. Very irish looking, stone walls, sheep running free, loads of wildlife and the most amount of peace you could possibly imagine.

The staff at the hotel collected all of our guests from the ferry and transported them to the hotel over the 2 days everyone arrived. On the Thursday a group went out fishing and the hotel cooked and served the fish with homemade tartar sauce and chips to everyone in the hotel bar.

On the day of the wedding they asked my husband and I to make sure the arrangement of the tables in the dining room was o.k for our guests and when we sheepishly asked could they move a couple of them around the said they had no problem doing it at all.

We had actually got married in a registry office earlier in the week with just 2 witnesses and the wedding in Inishbofin was the ceremony for our friends and family. We loved Colin so much that we asked him to marry us on Inishbofin which he did with pleasure. We wrote our vows and he practiced them with us the morning of the wedding behind the reception.

We got married in the library which had a huge apex glass window overlooking the harbor. My little girl sang as I came out with my Dad and there wasn't a dry eye in the house (including all the staff). Colin read out our vows and married us. The most romantic day of my entire life. The room filled with candles and everyone drank Mojitos and Champagne afterwards to celebrate.

The dining room was filled with 1000 candles. In fact there was so many that there was no need for main lights. It was spectacular. The food was to die for. Crab salad for starters and a pastry quiche as the other selection. The main courses were freshly caught fish from the local fishermen and steak which was cooked to absolute perfection. You could slice it with a fork it was so tender. Roasted vegetables and a different choice of food for the vegans and vegetarians. For dessert we had stuffed apples with homemade vanilla ice-cream. Yummy yummy, yummy.

In the evening we let off chinese lanterns into the Galway sky and everyone made good wishes towards the bride and groom. We had our own band who came over with us and then 2 djs who played until nearly 5am.

The day after the wedding the hotel put on an amazing bbq and also organized the local trad band to come and play. Everyone paid 10 euro and sat outside in the sun eating.

That night we had a cheile and again danced until the wee hours.

I know many people get stressed about weddings but if you do decide to get married with this hotel you will truly have the most amazing experience of your life. They had simple flowers, candles and nothing else because it really really didn't need anything else.

The hotel is beautiful as it is. Its on a beautiful island, overlooking the most incredible harbor, the staff are friendly and could not literally do enough for not just us but ALL of our friends. They even took the hotel van and brought the oldies around the island on a tour the day after the wedding because they wouldn't have seen the glory of Inishbofin otherwise.

I would not change a single thing about our day. It was like I said AMAZING!

Thank you so much Colin and Clare for everything. I'm sorry its taken me a few months to write this xxxxxx

We were lucky to hit Inishbofin for an end of October weekend with extraordinary great weather. The personal welcome from Claire and Colm was also extraordinary, and we felt we had come to stay with friends, rather than a hotel. We enjoyed great comfort, buckets of hot water, great food and craic. We walked the island twice, each time a complete circumnavigation, and an experience of peace, silence and scenery that will stay with us forever. The hotel is modern, warm, well laid out and extremely comfortable. The food is great, and nothing was too much trouble. But this is an island, everything comes in by boat: if you are looking to be entertained, cosseted and have a 5 star glitz, go elsewhere

We stayed for a week-end reunion and had a great time. The service was good and relaxed. You have to remember that you are on a small fairly remote island so don't expect posh city centre style service. Our room was clean and large with a kingsize bed and beautiful bed linen but make sure you ask for a room with a sea view. The views from our windows were magical over the harbour and beyond to Connemara. Its worth reading a little about the history of the island as it makes the historical sites much more interesting. Yes we'll be back

Stayed in the Inishbofin Marine Hotel and Spa. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and am planning to go back next summer for at least two weeks.

The hotel was much more modern than I would have imagined, the atmosphere was very relaxed. Our room was fantastic, nearly all rooms have access to an external balcony, pillows are duck feather, never slept so well!

The bar is very relaxed, food was excellent and great value for money. Breakfast the following morning in the main restaurant was really tasty, I would love to know who makes the sausages. The staff were all very welcoming and friendly, particularly the manageress Claire who seemed to organise everything with the exception of navigating the ferry from Cleggan and who could not do enough for us!!!!! There is a particularly tranquil library on the first floor with exceptional views of the sea.

Of all the weekends i've experienced in Ireland, this was the best. The Days bar next door to the hotel was great crack and the spa within the hotel was beautiful (did the seaweed bath which obviously did what it said on the tin, I was wrecked after it, so it must have detoxed me).

The island is great for walks, sea air and the fact that there is no mobile reception is actually not a disadvantage, in fact its great to get away from the distractions of the modern world.

On this island the people are very friendly and the ferry only takes 30 minutes, its like a different life away from the hustle and bustle of everyday cares. Good for the soul.

I would recommend anyone to take a trip to one of Irelands most beautiful places - Inishbofin.
