Andrew met us, and several others at the pier and while we did not have reservations took us to the hotel and found us a room. It is in the western part of this remote island that is fast becoming a "destination wedding" location albiet at a different hotel in general.
The hotel is quite basic and very adequate and certainly met our needs with a clean room and a shower with good pressure. Andrew had lots of information about walks on the island and was always helpful and informative. He has an uncanny knack for remembering names even after the briefest of introductions. There is a full restaurant with a 4 course dinner that was going to be too much for us (both price and quantity of food) so we elected to eat in the bar. This was good, but not great but certainly met our needs after completing most of one of the planned hikes.
It is a very quiet place and we got a good nights sleep even if it was a little windy and raining (it is the west of Ireland!). Breakfast was generous and very tasty. We were able to check out for the 1pm ferry and leave our bags and Andrew promised to meet us at the pier with our luggage and we went off for a walk. All worked out as planned and we had a great experience. A great place to stay if you are adventurous enough for the ferry trip. We loved it.

Dear Cruicad,

Thank you for your comprehensive positive review. We always try to go the extra mile when it comes to customer service and remembering names, though not easy when it's busy, is just one little, albeit important, part of making our guests feel welcome.
I grew up on this island and am proud to be able to give my guests and help and advice I can as well as information on the history, geography, folklore etc of this wonderful place.

I look forward to seeing you back again and feel free to test my memory out.

Regards,

Andrew

"No Problem" sums up the attitude of all the family and staff to the requests of their visitors; be they culinary, accomodation, or sightseeing. We have stayed there many times over the years on visits to Bofin, having stayed in some of the other hotels. It is noticeable how many of the visitors are ''returns''. The Murrays experience begins the moment you are picked up from the ferry and continues through to the fantastic crab claws in the bar (prepared by Alice) and the wonderful dinners with a change of menu every night prepared by the marvellous Aileen.Andrew is a fount of local knowledge and history which he is only too glad to share with his guests. Murrays ethos of hospitality and helpfulness should be copied in every hotel in Ireland.

Dear Tom K,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review and to be so positive about what we do in The Doonmore.

We strive for excellence and consistency, in every facet of our guests stay, from the moment you step off the ferry until I drop you back to the ferry when your stay is over.

Being a small family run hotel on a little island off the west coast is no reason not to offer our guests a level of service and hospitality on a par with any large 5 star hotel in the country. That is our goal and we will continue to push ourselves to maintain and even surpass ourselves every year.

I look forward to your next visit hopefully in 2014.

Regards,

Andrew

This hotel is excellent in very respect. We were collected at the pier and transported to the hotel by Andrew who was courteous, friendly and well informed of the history of the island. Accommodation is comfortable, clean and well serviced. Meals are excellent, especially the evening dinner which offers a new and interesting menu daily. The staff in this hotel are friendly and co-operative and I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and island for a relaxing break. It is particularly good value for money.

You don't stay at the Doonmore for the perfectly fine rooms with plenty of hot water; you don't stay for the best pub food you will ever have; you don't stay for the location and the fabulous views... You stay because this is a labour of love for the owners and staff and that shows in everything they do. Aileen and Andrew run a friendly hotel where you are made to feel welcome whether this is your first, or twenty first visit. We arrived at the end of the season and there was still a friendly smile and a wish to ensure your visit went well. A special mention for Claire, who 'manned' the dining room on her own with unfailing courtesy and efficency and did it all again for breakfast the next morning! One of the nicest places you'll ever stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are generally family rooms.

Dear Niamh K.

Thank you for taking the time to write this great review. I say great, not just because it is so positive but because you obviously understand the value of what we do. By 'we' I don't just mean the immediate family but also our fantastic staff who also take the business to heart and have great pride in their work., to the extent that sometimes it is difficult to know who is actually family and who is not, although they are all family in a way.
I do hope you make it back to visit this year.

Regards,

Andrew

My family has been staying at the Doonmore on and off for the last 20 years. There is a lovely familiarity about the place; the kids love it. The staff are wonderful and friendly and can't do enough for you. The food is lovely and the kids look forward to the pancakes at breakfast!
The island has a unique charm and the Doonmore is a great base for setting off on a walk or cycle. We'll keep coming back.
