A lovely hotel; beautiful rooms, very cozy lobby complete with fireplace, wonderful food and excellent, friendly, staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, too bad it was just one night. I would go back to Ireland just to stay there and I sincerely hope one day I get the pleasure of visiting again!

Room Tip: I don't remember my exact room number, but I felt like the Queen of England, it was so lovely. H...

I was invited recently to a woodcock shoot at the above hotel. What a surprise I got!! The day started at 9.30 the dogs hunted great and the beaters worked very diligently. We shot up until lunchtime and then retired back to the hotel for hot ports and a Silver Service lunch. The lunch was brilliant from start to finish. We re-commenced the shoot early afternoon when shooters, beaters and dogs were all watered and fed. I felt very privileged to be invited to the shoot, as I am told all shoots at the Zetland are booked out from one year to the next. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and bagged 11 birds!! It is easy seeing why the shoots are so successful as Redmond himself is a jolly and likeable character, he takes a huge personal and passionate interest in the shoot itself. Looking forward to returning!!

Recently spent two nights in the Zetland and would recommend this place to anyone. We were the only guests in the hotel at the time (due I think to the time of year) and the staff could not have done more to make our stay as pleasant as possible. A table was set up for dinner in the lovely drawing room in front of a real fire and food was delicious. Breakfast was served in our room which had a beautiful aspect. The hotel could use some cosmetic renovations but all in all we had a wonderful time and would not hesitate to make a return visit. Connemara is a magical place.

We had booked a meal for 4 to celebrate a special birthday and a bit of a 'Hen" do for that person.
the staff made it quite special and allowed us to have the fun and quirky games we planned.
the food was good and the atmosphere conducive to a good time
a cake was made and served to feed the whole bar let alone 4 of us.

Great hotel and atmosphere

We spent 2 weeks touring southern Ireland and the Zetland House was our favorite stop. Our rooms overlooked the lake and were huge by any standard. Most enjoyable was the staff. They were accommodating, friendly and willing to fulfill any request. One evening we asked for lamb cutlets which were not on the menu, and the chef (Margaret) went out of her way to obtain them for dinner that night. Pam was a treat serving us both in the bar and in the formal dining room. The view from the dining room was exquisite. Martina at the front desk was extremely accommodating providing us with extra luggage racks, and even providing valet service with luggage to our room while refusing a tip. The owner was very engaging and interesting (though his own brand of Irish whiskey would not be my choice). We were so pleased with the service and food, we left tip envelopes for every one of the staff we meet during our three night stay. It's not a Marriott Courtyard, but if you want to experience the local Irish charm, by all means, stay at the Zetland House.

We join the vast majority of Zetland reviewers who enjoyed their stay at this lovely, old country hotel. In fact, we really didn't want to leave---ever. Our rooms were invitingly large, with a huge bathroom adjoining, plus they overlooked the garden and the lake beyond. Breathtaking. We too arrived late and tired, but having eaten a late lunch, we didn't want a big dinner. Not a problem. The staff was more than willing to make whatever we wanted to eat. In fact, the food was so good that we came back to the hotel every night for dinner. All we had to do was order whatever we wanted in the morning and the kitchen would perform and in exceptional fashion. One of our party was celebrating a birthday and the most delicious cake was provided, just for us. We couldn't have been happier and the staff at Zetland (Martina, Pamela, Margaret) catered to our every desire with the famous Irish charm and humor. And speaking of humor, you haven't met the quintessential Irishman until you are regaled by the proprietor of Zetland, Colm Redmond. He has a story---and a drink---for every occasion. Yes, the house is old; no, it certainly is not going to suit every type of traveler, but for sheer warmth (including fires prepared just for us), we couldn't have felt more welcome. And we thought it was good value for the money as well.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the water.
