“A very pleasant stay”

Karaun House is a very charming cottage, the garden at the back is very beautiful, and our hostess Teresa is a very sweet lady and a wonderful cook, assisted by her charming husband Denny, she cooked us breakfast of french toasts which were really awesome. We also got recommended Moran Oyster Cottage which was great, we really enjoyed the food there, but because of the rain, we had to drive to dinner. The GPS co-ordinates should have been fixed by now, we also got lost using the original co-ordinates, but had since given Teresa the correct one, which she had used to update the B&B people.

We stayed at Karaun House – a 2-storey B&B – for 1 night in late July, 2011. Pros: It's only 15 mins. (or less) of a drive southwest of downtown Galway. It has very pretty environs – the perfect distance away to enjoy the city, but not feel cramped by it. (Note: this B&B looks less quaint by its approach than it really is.) Karaun House is exceptionally quiet, spotlessly clean, has lovely grounds, is in a great location, and has a friendly, 17-year old resident outdoor cat. Our room (upstairs, double) was quite large by comparison to our other B&Bs for this trip (we stayed at 7), and our bed was incredibly comfortable. Good bathroom/shower pressure. Breakfast was *wonderful*. Our host, Theresa, was charming – the perfect mix of friendly (when we arrived) and busy (breakfast) – in a “let me get this for you", "what else might you like?" way. Best of all, as others have said, she directed us down a LOVELY cow path (very rural!) through the most gorgeous landscape we've ever seen to Moran's Oyster Cottage on Galway Bay. It was a 15 minute walk (maybe shorter at a faster clip, but we kept taking pictures), past a ruined cemetery, cows, sheep... As though someone had painted us the perfect Irish landscape. Moran’s is a great restaurant/pub (thatched roof!) but we suggest only walking there in the lighter months; it wasn’t even dusk at 9 p.m. when we left (late July) – and there are no lamps so don’t even try when it's dark. Cons: The website we used (B&B Ireland) has Karaun House located on Stradbally East. NO! IT'S ON STRADBALLY NORTH! So, it was VERY difficult for us to find, even with our GPS. Guests 60+ might find it difficult to take luggage upstairs, where our bedroom was (we are in our 30s; not a problem).

Room Tip: We loved the upstairs double.

We've spend a week at Karaun House for holidays and it was the perfect place to visit Galway, the Burren and the Connemarra.
Teresa had made us a warm welcome and we really enjoy our trip. We recommand this B&B specialy for the quiet, the breakfast and the kindness of the hostess.

Our party of 4 (2 couples) stayed at Teresa's comfy and charming home for our first 2 nights of a near two-week visit to Ireland. She is a most hospitable hostess. The food is spectacular, and I particularly appreciated her attention to my gluten-free dining needs. The rooms were comfortable, clean and well-equipped. Karaun house's location was perfect for touring both south to Cliffs of Moher and northwest to Aran Islan tours. In sum, we were delighted with Karaun House and its lovely hostess, Teresa. It was a welcoming introduction to the charm and hospitality of Ireland. We carried the good feelings from Karaun House through all of our travels in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

In so many ways this was like staying at my Grandma's house. The food was really good, probably the best french toast I've ever had, and our hostess was really nice, but from the reviews I'd read, I was expecting a lot more from the room. The beds (supposedly orthopedic, but ours definitely wasn't) were really uncomfortable, the worst on our trip. Things were clean, but tired and outdated and the carpets needed cleaning/replacement. All the places we'd stayed before this one were new, or newly refurbished so it really stood out that things needed some updating. If they'd do some updating and get some new mattresses, it'd be a a good place to stay because the location, food, and hostess were great, but I probably wouldn't choose to stay there again.

We had a lovely stay at Karaun House. We arrived in time for a late dinner, and Teresa was very helpful in directing us to a great seafood pub that was nearly 300 years old, and a 15 minute walk from the b & b. The rooms were comfortable, the bathrooms kind of small, but not a problem. Breakfast was more than we could eat (we got the full Irish) and Teresa was the perfect hostess. In a great country setting, beautiful fields and baby horses! Also the view from one of the bedrooms was her beautiful flower garden.
