Tig Congaile
Ranked #2 of 4 Inishmann B&B and Inns

Recently we stayed at Tig Congaile .The breakfast was most disappointing. We had to make our own toast .The tea and coffee were barely warm. We had eaten breakfast before we got fresh hot coffee and tea. The Man who owned the B&B was not very friendly when my friends passed the time of day with him he replied with a grunt. The following morning we tried having a shower only to find there was not any hot water.. Although the bed was comfortable the B&B was not what we expected . We had stayed on Inis Sheer last year and expected the same standard but were most disappointed. We wound not recommend this establishment although the Island itself was lovely and worh visiting I would give this place a wide birth.

Tig Congaile is a family BB on Inis Meain; It is Bristo styled resturant with clean comfortable ensuite rooms with the grandest views of the cliffs of moher and clare and Inis oir from some of the rooms. Its a home away from home. Its offers rooms at excellence prices with arguably one of the best cooks on the Island: Vilma, an absolute gem. It is perhaps her simple and humble character that adds so much value to the experience at Tig Congaile. After any long day out exploring the Island one is treated with sumptuous meals. Its like coming home to mom's. Even if you dont stay at this BB it is a place to eat. The hostess Vilma and her daughter Maria's; friendly demeanour and conversation makes you settle into a comfortable and relaxed frame of mind quickly. On arrival Vilma had tea and oh man-the banana and peanut muffins just melted in my mouth. Breakfast offers an array of fruits, muffins, home made porridge, jams, egg and toast and even Irish breakfast. Lunch and Dinner are extra but one looks forward to the menu with earnest after any trip out. Lobster, crab, salmon, veg, seaweed, home made ice cream are some of the delicacies encountered. excellent wine availble. I without hesitation or doubt recommend Tig Congaile to any visitor to the Island, its an adventure to remember.

We spent 1 night on the island in early July. After a long day of hiking around the island it was lovely to come back to a comfy, warm bed and friendly hospitality. We had an early boat the following morning and were greeting with delicious banana and peanut butter muffins and home-made porridge. The dining room also has a sea view looking right over to Co. Clare (weather permitting!).

Vilma, the proprietor is an absolute card, really friendly and totally hospitable.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side have a sea view. Ask for an early breakfast if leaving on an early boat.

Bistro style restaurant and café with great wines and en suite rooms. Enhanced by great conversation (local and global) with the best cook on the island. Magnificent views of nearby Inis Oir and the ever changing sea. Make it the highlight of your day trip, your island get away, or your best cuisine night out.

Room Tip: Try for sea view

Vilma, who runs this B&B, is a gem. A real character and an absolutely terrific cook. Fresh-baked mini-muffins at breakfast - she gave me the recipe and I've made them a few times since - and a really delicious evening meal with such delicacies as seaweed tempura and home-made limoncello ice-cream, made this a place to remember. Inis Meain itself is, of course, a magical place for walks and swims and seaviews and peace. Highly recommend Tig Congaile.

Spent two lovely nights at Tig Congaile in late August, the first night we were the only guests. There were probably five tourists on the entire island during those two days which meant it was incredibly quiet and relaxing. I had one of the best nights of sleep of my entire life! Our room was clean and the house was very comfortable. We had views of the cargo pier, Inisheer and the Cliffs of Moher from our window. Vilma was a great hostess and it was lovely to chat with her about life on the island. The pub is about a 5 minute walk as is the path leading to the other side of the island (which has amazing rock formations). The ferry pier was about a 35 minute walk - taxis are available but we opted to get the exercise.

Anyone staying here should know that Vilma's restaurant is amazing, and one of the few dining options on the island! The first night we opted to try her seafood - it was all fresh and delicious - try the scallop and black pudding appetizer! The next evening we opted for soup and bread and tried her dessert menu - the chocolate chip and apricot cake was a perfect end to the meal!

I arrived at this B&B having been left stranded on the island due to an error by the ferry operator. Technically Tig Congaile was closed and the host, Vilma, was apologetic that the cleaning was incomplete but that she would find me a room at short notice.

As time was getting on, I decided to dine here too and - as other reviewers have said - nothing was too much trouble. Vilma's cooking is superb and thoroughly recommended. She also went out of her way to ensure transport was organised for me, for the morning. Service such as this is very commendable.

The room was small but comfortable with simple en suite facility. Sadly, though, although I knew that the cleaning was incomplete, it looked like the bedding hadn't been changed. There were crawling insects in the bathroom, the water ran a sort of green colour and I battled a number of flies in the room.

The following morning, breakfast was provided - again to a high quality. Vilma bakes her own traditional Irish bread. You should try it. And as promised, transport arrived as planned for my departure.

In a normal situation, I would mark a property down significantly due to poor hygiene. However given the short notice and the warm welcome and kindness extended, a little leeway is offered. I certainly would recommend this place to dine and presuming my experience with the cleanliness was just a blip, this is a probably a fine place to stay too.
