Just back from a wonderful visit to the Aran Islands. However our stay at the Aran Islands hotel was very, very disappointing. We were booked to stay there for 2 nts but after the 1st night checked When we checked into our room at the Aran Islands hotel we really felt that it had not been cleaned properly. This was confirmed when we pulled back the covers on one of the beds to discover sand in the sheets. The mirrors in the room had not been cleaned in a long time, the bathroom was definitely given a quick wipe over and the floor had certainly not been hovered. 2 lampshades were broken and there were cobwebs in the corner of the room. The room was very spacious and had great potential but had a general aura of neglect. Breakfast in the morning was appalling with 2 bowls of cereals in the corner and a jug of orange juice. There was no bread, yogurts or the usual fruit salad. A very basic standard Irish breakfast was offered to us with none of the normal choices one has come to expect in hotels these days. We met with 2 American visitors who were so glad they were only staying the 1 night. They had travelled all over Ireland staying in basic B&Bs and had decided to treat themselves to this hotel for the 1 night. They were extremely disappointed with the hotel. They had returned to the hotel at 10pm the night before to find the bar closed, had to ask for toilet roll etc to be brought to their room, tried to order room service(simple ice cream) at 10pm to be told it was not possible.
We checked out of the hotel after our 1st night and moved to the lovely Pier House. I would certainly recommend this lovely guest house to anyone visiting the island. Simple, clean, good food, friendly people, well run and good value for money. The Aran Islands are a fantastic place to visit with amazing scenery and people. I highly recommend the islands to anyone but stay away from the Aran Islands hotel.
