“Dissappointed with our stay”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

We stayed in this hotel in August as a family of two adults and two children. The room was tatty and had wallpaper peeling off around the window. The carpet was stained, but in the bathroom we found a big piece of long black hair stuck to the wall of the shower... It wasnt mine. The food in the restaurant was only ok and not worth the price we thought. Though we were impressed with the food in the thai restaurant which is in a different building so would recommend eating there. The kids entertainment was very good with a magician and kiddes disco in one of the ballrooms. We have stayed previously as a couple in this hotel and the rooms have been immaculate so we were really dissappointed this time and unfortunately put off going back.

An extra star since my last stay in June. I believe it has come out of administration, and the service is more friendly and efficient. Good bar area, reasonable buffet breakfast, and good sized rooms albeit several kilometres from reception, or so it seemed. Maybe a side door option would be good? Bring your mobility trolley if you don't like a good walk. However the Lemongrass Thai restaurant, a 5 minute walk from reception (closer than most of the rooms!) was excellent, great food and highly recommended. Overall, much better than last time and I'd recommend it.

Room Tip: Check the walk from reception!

Stayed at the Citywest hotel during a convention in September. The hotel is just huge, and offers a lot of facilities (golf course, gym, swimming pool, etc).
Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately there was no wifi in the rooms, but it was free in the public spaces of the hotel.
Recommendation: buy a real espresso machine to make coffee

We chose to stay here for the first night of two because it was a last minute booking and all the reasonably priced non-hostel accommodation was booked due to a concert. I was a little worried about how far out of the city it was, but given we were driving from Belfast and were planning to eat then sleep it wasn't a problem staying on the outskirts for the first night.

I think on reflection I wished I'd booked this hotel for both nights, and in my opinion was the best bit of our stay in Dublin.

For what we got, the price we booked at was excellent, and the experience was above top quality hotels that I've stayed at in London. The room was spacious, clean and well equipped and had free ethernet Internet access in the room (unlike a lot of other places which charge for this). There were no noise problems, which other reviewers had mentioned, although this was outside of the summer holiday period.

For dinner we visited the bistro and because we had a large lunch we shared the Pizza Bolognese. This was the best pizza either of us have had, and my girlfriend said that it beat those she had in Italy. Had we had been hungrier we could have happily had a second one. For dessert I had the apple tart. Again the best apple tart I've ever tasted. Compliments to the chef!

The breakfast was very good, although we were happy to share a large table with another couple, some guests might not feel so comfortable with this when it is busier.

Transport was very easy into the centre of Dublin via the LUAS tram system which is 5-10 minutes walk from the hotel.

The only downside I can think of is the parking is a bit tricky and perhaps could be actively managed during busy periods to help guests find space. A few thoughtless people had parked across a couple of spaces, and with parking being a bit tight, this was making it difficult. With a little patience we found a space though.

If I was coming back to the Dublin area, I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here for one night when on a recent business trip.

The hotel is very large and grand and the staff do everything they can to ensure that you are made to feel welcome and enjoy your stay.

I highly recommend you eat at the Thai Resturant on site, which is three minutes walk away at the main golf part of hotel.

booked a sat & sunday nights stay only three days before our visit! we booked a superior room for both nights breakfast included. the check in was quick with no troubles. our room was on the swift wing, third floor only a five minute walk from reception. my only big complaint was that there were no signs on each floor as your are exiting the elevator ( and the elevator itself didnt display the floor number either) mistakingly got out once or twice withour checking! the room was big, large bed. very clean and modern bathroom. nice big window let in plenty of light. we had a smoking room i requested an ash tray a few hours after we checked in and never recieved it that was a little bothering ( but it was a sat night and a full hotel - not a very big deal) breakfast was your typical big hotel breakfast - big fry up or fruits and cereals! we ate in the lemongrass restaurant on the premises _ very nice food at a good price! the hotel was a ten minute walk from the luas stop, and cost 4.90 i think per adult for a return ticket to the city centre (the trip took 40 mins or so but well worth it - beats driving into the city to find parking) overall great stay would be back!
