I stayed for 2nights here, due to its location to a wedding reception I was attending. A good breakfast provided and a very clean place.

This was a very nice B&B although we were under the impression that we would be more in the country...it was situated in a small town of Lucan...a 10 minute walk to the city bus and a half hour ride into Dublin. It was neat riding the bus with the 'locals' though. Astrid was very nice and we had very good breakfasts. The room was sort of small as was the bathroom, but that's typical of most B&B's. Internet didn't work in the room, so we had to go to their dining room for Internet access.

Moat Lodge is a good value place to stay in Dublin. Owners are friendly, helpful and the breakfast makes a good start to the day - very generous.

I spent a week in Ireland and stayed in a different hotel or B&B each night and in comparison, this place was the worst. Our greeting was lukewarm at best and on the way to our room, we were subjucted to no less than four huge no-smoking signs. The owner left us at the door with a warning not to arrive late for breakfast the next morning. The room was tiny and very ugly and cheap. The owners had made absolutely no effort to make the room attractive or comfortable, the only decoration being the two large no-smoking signs. In the "welcome" pack there was a further poster stating that guests who smoke in the rooms will be fined something like €200.

My partner is a smoker (who always goes outside), and when he politely enquired where in the garden he may smoke, the very curt answer was "We do not encourage smoking, even outdoors." On our way out to dinner, we left through the front door, pasted with further instructions such as "do not slam door" and of course, no-smoking. Even though the ban doesn't affect me personally, I find it very rude and unwelcoming to hang so many signs. It makes you feel like a naughty school child rather than a welcome and may I add, paying guest.

Breakfast was nothing special. The room and bathroom were clean. I have been to Ireland several times and every other place I stayed at was just so much nicer.

What began as the gate house for an estate built in the 17th century has grown into a lovely B&B that's very convenient to Dublin. Comfortable and clean rooms, lovely hosts, good food. Moat Lodge is tucked into the tiny village of Lucan, which itself is an undiscovered delight, right at the western edge of Dublin, and only a quick, straight busride into O'Connell Bridge. Rather than battle the nightmare of Dublin traffic, stay here and enjoy the commute in.
