Lucan Spa Hotel

My wife and I stayed at the Lucan Spa Hotel in early december last year for 4-5 nights (can't remember). We were a bit apprehensive due to some of the indifferent reviews we read from previous customers. It is located about a 20 minute drive outside Dublin city. This, we found was a postive in some ways. We found it very easy to get on to certain roads when we were travelling into the countryside. There is a river just over the road in front of the hotel and we spent most mornings enjoying a peaceful walk down by the river amongst the tree's. The check in was efficient and our room was clean. My wife fell ill with bronchitis during our stay and the general manger was extremely helpful. He called a doctor who came immediately and checked back with us periodically to make sure she was comfortable. Breakfast was nice and varied; my preference for a cold breakfast was satisfied as was my wife's penchant for bacon and egg's on holiday's. There is a nice bar at the bottom of the hotel which is nice for a quiet drink. There are also nice restaurants in Lucan town itself, only two minutes walk away. The decor is a tad on the old side and its a small drive into dublin town, but the Lucan Spa Hotel has great service. We will definately stay there again!

I was working in Dublin, and used this hotel as using a city centre hotel can have problems with parking and could be noisy with the usual Brits on the lash untill the small hours in the morning.

so, i thought of Lucan, wich is just outside of Dublin - and came across the Spa Hotel, right next to the N4 a motorway but dont let that put you off, it's only a glorified dual carriageway and no where near as busy as a arterial motorway in the UK.

I thought the hotel had a charm about it, as it's not part of a multi national chain and does'nt feel sterile and corprate like alot of hotels are nowadays.

Considering that Dublin has terrible traffic i was up and out before 7am, to get into town at wich time breakfast was served i can't comment on the breakfast. But the Bistro attached to the hotel was good and inexpensive for my evening meal.

Overall, i'd use the hotel again, i was there for buisness and it served my needs - a pint at the end of the day, a meal and a good bed for the night. it was clean the staff did their job and i had no problems with it.

No very accommodating!!!" Booked on-line and asked for non-smoking room and soya milk for breakfast. When checking in, asked again for soya milk but receptionist didn't seem to be listening but said "no problem". Night porter did not know who we were because we were not entered on the hotel register even though we checked in hours before (good job there was no emergency!!). Couldn't use the communal internet as the manager was not available - hence could not check our return flights!! We did not get our soya milk for breakfast. Also, someone entered the room at 0700hrs. When we were at breakfast, someone entered our room again and left the door open. The room had a stink of cigarettes and the shower ran hot and cold whilst one was in it. Overall, not a very pleasant stay and will not return - ever!!

First of all the taxi cost a fortune as the hotel is way outside dublin, a 50 min bus journey into the city centre.
Very unhelpful staff, the hotel is very dated, and it's located right next to the N4. Which is a motorway so it's very noisy all night, even though they have installed a secondary window.
Better to get a hotel in city centre.

I stayed in the Lucan Spa Hotel, during the Ryder Cup @ the K Club, mainly because of convenience to the course ( 20mins ). As previous reviewer has said, the hotel needs a big re -vamp....very dated. When you see dis-coloured suspended ceiling tiles in your bedroom ( 20yrs old at least ), things were not looking good. TV was ancient & remote was bolted to the wall...I presume for security. There was so much hype in ireland for the Ryder Cup, but you wouldn`t have known it was on in this Hotel.....no entertainment in the main bar 5 nights running ( Hotel was full ). The bottom line is that you get the impression that whoever owns this hotel couldn`t care less about attracting visitors as the overall image of the Hotel is poor...would only recommend staying in this Hotel if you are really stuck.!

Reasonably priced hotel on the west side of Dublin, therefore making it hard to get into the city.
Hotel has obviously seen better days.
Rooms very tired and tatty with the oldest TV set I've in a hotel in years. Furnished by a maniac. Acacado suite in the bathroom...nice!
Service in Reception and Restaurant was terrible, although food in restaurant was excellent.
