“Baby Christening”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012 via mobile

We had our baby's christening recently in the hotel. My wife made the booking and I have to say we all had a great time. Fine food, excellent service and the staff couldn't have been nicer ... We had food platters to start, and the baby cake presented by staff to our guests. Dinner was later which everyone really enjoyed .. Ok.. So the rooms arent great, but they where cleane comfortable beds, what more do you want ... We will be using the hotel for any future family events

very pleasant stay comfortable room and bathroom suitable for a couple of nights stay. staff very friendly and food very good.Room fine and breakfast is nice. Good value hotel about 25 to 30 mins by bus from dublin town centre bus stops short walk away. Hotel bit old fashioned but fine for a few nights stay. wouldnt come here for a romantic get away but suitable and good road links and quite no road noise and this is my second stay.

They have a lovely area where they cater for wedding receptions.

Stopped over for long weekend for Westlife concert @ Croke park 1st time for me have been to Dublin before but not for live music spent a long time reviewing places of interest much to see & do Guinness & homemade food a bonus Killmainam gaol a must for lots of history But its just the friendliness of the Irish people that makes any time spent in Ireland a special place to return to.

I stayed there for 5 days in May 2012 with a large group of people from the Castleford Male Voice choir. The staff were very friendly and the food was fantastic...We never left the dining room hungry! The bed was comfy and the room had TV, Coffee & Tea making facilities, Ironing board plus a Hairdryer. The only slight down side was that my single room was in need of modernisation (a few minor cracks that's all, what you would expect for an old hotel I suppose). The public spaces were nice including the bar/ reception and the dining/ breakfast rooms. The best room by far was the new conference room to the side with wonderful chanilliers and large arched windows and drapes. It was stunning. While we were there they had the room set up for a gala evening and it looked beautiful. It would also be great for a wedding reception. The hotel was well worth the money and would recomend a visit.

We got a deal for overnight plus breakfast for €30, as we were attending a function in lucan it was cheaper than getting a taxi home. As soon as you walk in you can get the smell of old musty dampness. It is in desperate need of a renovation. The bedroom was fine but the carpets could have done with a hoover and the bathroom was quite grimey. The ceiling has those tiles that you would get in an office and they were very dirty in some areas. The fire alarm went off at 10am for about 30 seconds so that was a little annoying. The staff were fine. We decided not to chance the food on the back of the all round run down-ness of the hotel. For €30 you cant expect much but we wouldnt be staying again.

Now forgive me for being a wee bit stupid. But when I booked a night in the Lucan SPA hotel should I have expected to find a spa in the hotel? So when i ask the receptionist where the spa was I got a blank look. We havnt had a spa for a long time but because it was always known as the Lucan Spa they kept the name!!
Anyway on to the hotel, well to say that it was old style is an understatement but I have to say that although the room was very old it was comportable and for the money paid it was sufficient. The radiater was very old and not a lot of heat came out of it so I wouldnt like to have stayed in it in the dead of winter. We had a bad experience with yahoo's in the room below us making a lot of noise at three in the morning and after phoning down to reception with no avail I had to get up and go down and see the porter to get him to either contact the room again or we were going to leave. Now this could and has happened to me in a few hotels so really we cant blame the hotel but when it is drawn to their attention it should be dealt with immediately. Now the food in this hotel was very good and the breakfast was good also. One issue which I see raised before is signage to the hotel. Or infact lack of it. You could end up sailing up and down the N4 looking for the turn off so if your comming from the M50 approach the slip road slowly to avoid another lap. Overall you get what you pay for and if we hadnt had the hassle with the noise we would have gone home happy with the value of our stay. Would I stay here for a few days? Nope. But for an overnight stay its fits the bill.

Room Tip: If its the winter bring a wee heater with you!!

Never again would we stay at this old fashioned and stale hotel. The rooms were ancient...now dont get me wrong I have stayed in OLD WORLD hotels and they were great but this was stuck in time and smelt of OLD .The bathroom was so small and when we went down for breakfast there wasnt any food left.Only that we were rushing to a first anniversary Mass Id have created a stink. They took our money from us on arrival for Bed and Breakfast but alas no Breakfast.I could go on but whats the point....suffice to say never again.
