Very scenic ride from Dublin to Dalkey on the Dart and a short walk from th train station to the castle. Even in summer there was no line or long waiting time. Staff was very friendly and informative. Short video presentation then a walk through the remains of the castle grounds complete with a historic castle dweller. i am a history buff so it was like walking through time as the little group of us we led through a religious daance complete with a wall touching to relieve our troubles. then it was up to the castle, not many steps but a bit tricky. The next castle dweller took us through various types of castle occupations and it was a hands on experience. I have read many books on history but nothing compared to these demonstrations. We were taken to the top of the castle and though not much to see on top, the view around was splendid. There is a small gift shop but apart from post cards there was not much pertaining to the castle. The fee was small and well worth the experience.
The small village has a few pubs and eating places, but my favourite was a small gift shop the boasted different fare than you would fine in a regular tourist shop and worth a visit, you cannot miss it on you right if you are walking from the castle.

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the Living History tour and the friendly staff and that you felt it was well worth the entrance fee. It is great too that you had time to browse around the town of Dalkey and its attractions.

I brought my three grandchildren to Dalkey Castle and they and I had a wonderful time. They were invited to try out the long bow by the Archer. The seven year old thought he could go back and train as an archer, the actor was so convincing! The characters did a great job staying in role andthe children still believe the Barber Surgeon was drinking urine. My granddaughter brought a coin away that she got to mint herself. Afterwards we went down the street and sat on a model of an old tram.

Great experience and entertainment for all ages!

with young gran children to keep happy, it was hard work.but using the castle was a good place to explore Dalkey village, and the surrounding area, and the fantastic Kiliney beach, nice place's to eat and drink in the village of Dalkey, during the day and the evening.

We enjoyed our tour of Dalkey Castle with the costumed guides. They were a lot of fun and didn;t take themselves too seriously. Yet, they stayed in character.. We particularly enjoyed the cemetery and the top of the castle where you have a great view of Dalkey There are some very steep steps though! And some low doorways.
