We took the Dart from Dublin to explore Dalkey at the advice of a friend who had been born there. He said to be sure to have the fish and chips at the Queen as they were the best. He was absolutely right! Dalkey is a seaside town and the waitress told us the fish was caught at a location only 5 minutes from the restaurant. It tasted like it had been caught that morning! The freshest I ever had. The restaurant itself is quite lovely. If you do the walking tour of Dalkey that is in the Eyewitness Dublin book the Queen is near the Castle, toward the end of the tou. End your walking tour with a memorable meal.

We arrived at about 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. The bar was pretty packed so we walked into the restaurant area to get a table. Bad idea. We were told that that area was now closed. So we managed to get a table beside the bar. It just wasn't suitable for eating so after ordering we moved to a proper table. We had the chicken and leek pie which was definitely home made and very tasty. After we were served it was fairly much impossible to get any further service. The place is really a pub, a bit basic but probably a good place to watch the rugby in.

We tried this restaurant while in Dalkey. It looked interesting, as the boards outside advertised 'steak on a stone, for £18.95'.
The steak really did come on a hot stone ( although one of ours was not hot at all, and had to be replaced).
The waiter told us to cut the steak in strips, and cook on the stone, and while at first we thought it was a lot of trouble to cook your own steak, we actually enjoyed the experience, and would do it again. The drawback was paying three pounds for vegetables, which came in a tiny square dish, and were minuscule, and dry and frizzled. They looked as though they had been kept warm for hours. Not nice.
Desserts were ok, except for the crumble, --which was a runny tart, and definitely not a crumble.
The ambience of the restaurant was lovely and cosy, and the staff were great.

We've been to the Queens on several occasions for dinner and love going there! I'd highly recommend the fillet steak which I always have. Desserts are lovely too. Very good value if you go early bird as well. We bring our kids, 12 and 15 and they love it (the 15 year old loves his rare steaks and is very fussy so thumbs up from him). Our 12 year old daughter loves the chicken goujons. They love the chocolate fudge cake. All in all a good place to eat :)
