“Great fun at Dispensary”
Reviewed December 24, 2011

Very cool, edgy restaurant. Two people can share the seafood platter for Euro30 and together with a couple of glasses of wine get out for Euro50 in total. However the wine list is extensive and affordable. The deserts are lovely. All done with great energy and fun. Thoroughly recommended.

“This place is a perfect end to a lovely seaside day”
Reviewed December 1, 2011

My friends and I went for a great walk from Killiney Dart station to Dalkey last weekend. It is a brilliant way to see one of the most stunning Italian style coastlines near the city of Dublin and a great place for city visitors to go if they do not have much time on their hands. You can also pass Bono's house on the way!! There are many restaurants to pick from in Dalkey and after an excellent Guinness in a pub called Finnegans (also apparently known as the Sorrento) we chose a tapas type of restaurant called Wright's Dispensery. The restaurant has a really cool wine bar type decor inside and an open kitchen which allows you to see all the cooking and what is available. We sat downstairs but there is more seating in a library type atmosphere upstairs and as we stayed long enough we moved to hear some great Spanish musicians that later played. There were four of us and we all had the best time. The staff were exceptional and friendly and a great laugh. There was a very attractive hostess who could not have looked after us better and advised us well on the menu. Meatballs great as were the combo platters for 2. Overall a really tasty menu and we tried lots. We liked the options on the different wines by the glass we could try. Always a pity though no beers in wine bars. The trifle was presented in a glass jar which was quirky and imaginative and tasted really good. Our night was made by my friend's hero, Neil Jordan being in the place. A friend who writes reviews regularly suggested we should put up a post as we talked about the day so much.As we are and in reading earlier reviews on this site for this was surprised by the very personal attacks to the lovely hostess who served us. Certainly this was not our experience nor that of several people who we have since recommended the place to. We will definitely be back often as had a brilliant overall day. Darted back home to Malahide. All very easy.

“Interesting menu, terrific food, lively atmosphere, and cordial staff”
Reviewed November 24, 2011

I eaten at least 4 times at the Dispensary and loved it every time. The menus has smaller "tapas" dishes reasonably priced that you mix and match. The fish and shellfish, of course, are always great, but so are the all of the others we have tried. Service can be slightly slow when they are busy, but it is not a problem because the place is so enjoyable to be in. Highly recommended.

“Unfriendly Manageress could ruin this place”
Reviewed November 15, 2011

We went for dinner to Wrights, 4 of us and we booked well in advance. On arrival we told the Manageress that we had a reservation, she then proceeded to look thru pages and pages in front of us as if she doubted that we were telling the truth. She never said 'welcome, or enjoy your meal. She brought us up to our table upstairs. The table was for 4 people and was small, so small that we ended up putting our bottle of water on the floor and the wine also. The food was very nice, some of it really good, some average. There are lots and lots of small plates of food, but again we had to put some on the floor !...by the way our coats were also on the back of our chairs as well. The wine was very nice and cost 34 euro a bottle. We had a booking for 9 pm so the restaurant was very busy. Around 10.30 the live music started at the back of the floor we were sitting on. Cringe worthy would describe it. Awful. And they obviously had planted some ladies who were getting men up to dance.

The food was nice and the atmosphere was good too but we felt like we were not really welcomed into the place and we did spend a lot of money. There is only one bathroom for ladies so you will have to q to use it !

All in all, we prob would try it once more, but I know from talking to lots of people who have been there, that our experience of the lack of friendly staff is still there. The manageress does not seem to grasp the fact that for restaurants to remain popular in Dalkey, they must have exceptional staff. Please note.

“Lovely addition to Dalkey”
Reviewed November 11, 2011

I work locally and have been in and out of all the many restaurants and coffee shops in Dalkey. I popped into the Dispensary for lunch and was really impressed. The waitress was very pleaseant and the service was excellent. The food was delicious and the venue is beautiful. I will be back.
