“Good stay”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Was recently away with my wife and son and my parents.
Was a little disappointed at the rooms as they were a little tired looking, however, seeing some photos of newer rooms online, there are obviously newer more modern ones which do look good.
I assume due to the amount of guests, the newer part was not open during our stay.

The food was delicious and the hotel had a lovely setting.

The hotel staff were very helpful and let us check in early, which was especially brilliant due to the young son. They even changed rooms to give us two that had been just cleaned.

The leisure center and spa was brilliant also, great large pool, steam room and sauna were both great and a great big jacuzzi.

The deal we got on groupon was fantastic value and we had a lowly stay and would definitely be back.

Just back from a two night stay in this fabulous hotel. From the time we walked through the door we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The room which overlooked the river was the biggest hotel room i ever stayed in. The room was spotless. The food was fantastic and served by pleasant staff. We also got to use the leisure centre and swimming pool. The hotel is in a great location to the town and plenty of walks around it. I could nt recomend this hotel enough and we will definitely be back.

Room Tip: We had a room over looking the river and the silence at night time was beautiful.(room 167)

We used to be very frequent visitors to this hotel and are just back from a 2 night break

We had to wait until 4pm until our room was ready. We were told they would contact us when the room was ready. Although we were sitting in the open area practically at reception we watched another couple get their keys so we approached reception and asked were our rooms ready yet - they were.......... could they not have called us???

We had no luck getting into our room and had to visit the reception 3 times room key was not working however pleased to find the rooms in the old part of this hotel have been tastefully redecorated. The room we were allocated 165 had a beautiful view of the river and the forest. Free wifi , tea and coffee in rooms........great start then the problem NO HEAT.

We suffered in silence from 4pm in the hope it would eventually come on then we contacted reception they told us it was a maintenance problem and would get us a small heater this never arrived although a lovely lady from the laundry did knock our door to say she was looking for one........it never did come. At 8pm we asked to change room the young man at reception told us it was a problem throughout the hotel and changing room would not be the answer. We later found out the heating could be turned on and off at the reception manually. The radiators at this time was tepid. The heating was finally on when we returned from the Sunday dance (really good entertainment and company incidentally) so we retired to bed happier. This was to be shortlived next morning cold again this time we were ready for home.
However they did change the room offered, a choice of two. We picked the warmest 232. This was an upgrade to a standard suite, the reason picked the suite was that the radiator was on, not because it was a suite. (Suites in the newer part of the hotel are much nicer as we have in the past stayed there.)
Happy to be warm we headed out for a meal. Returning we had a lovely warm bath the room was still warm horray....... At 10pm the heating was off SURPRISE>>>>>>> We woke up disgusted as there was a fall of snow during the very cold night and our radiators were like ice as was the room NO THE WHOLE NIGHT.
When we returned from a breakfast in the bistro.........not to the same standard as the day before which had been presented in the restaurant with more choice.
We were talking with 2 other couples on the same room level the couple 5 rooms away had the same COLD problem, the other actually had heat but did have other issues.

We were booked to stay New Years Eve but have since cancelled this and will not be returning to Jacksons Hotel.
There are two other very good hotels in the area, Kees in Stranorlar and Villa Rose yards away.

This is winter and you need HEAT.
Very dissappointed in Jacksons.

Room Tip: Dont pay upfront You might be lucky and be allocated a warm room apparently there are some. The s...

Stayed at Jacksons recently for a family wedding. This was the first time we were at a ceremony held in the hotel. The wedding area was stunning as the bridal party came down a fantastic staircase to the awaiting guests.. We were checked into our room within 10mins of arrival, our room was a bit dated and the toilet rocked from side to side, but it was huge and spotless. The meal at the wedding, and the breakfast the next morning were second to none, first class fare. Can't wait to go back for a wee visit soon. Ps the staff are the friendliest I have come across in a long time... Thanks for a lovely stay...

The staff keep this hotel going i booked on line very helpful girl Sinead answered a lot of questions and booked our room and staff at reception great a young male i didn't catch his name but moved us to a lovely room for second night but it was also so noisy not his fault .i give honest views and its just a pity this review isn't one of my best .i meant to ask to view one of their suites

Dear Guest,

Delighted that you feel our friendly and helpful staff make our hotel, they will be thrilled to get such praise. I do sincerely apologise for any noise disturbance that you experienced during your stay with us. We do try our upmost to ensure that guests don’t disturb other guests, however sometimes this is beyond our control. I have highlighted the issues with your room to our head housekeeper, as this is certainly not the level of standards that we adhere to. I am delighted that you did inform us of these issues during your stay and we were able to offer you an alternative that you were happy with.

I do hope that you return to Jacksons Hotel again in the future and I will personally ensure that you have an enjoyable stay with us.

My girlfriend and I stayed here on Sunday and Monday last week, courtesy of a GrabOne deal. The deal entitled us to stay in a deluxe room, but we chose to stay in the old part of the hotel, where pets are welcome, so we could bring our dog, Kibble. It's rare to find a hotel that allows pets, and Jackson's couldn't have been any more accommodating or welcoming.
The room (no 161) was absolutely fine - reasonably spacious, clean and with a comfy bed. The corridors were quiet at night, and we had an excellent view of the River Finn and Ballybofey Forest. (No silly safety locks on the windows, either.) We only had one towel on arrival, but this was quickly sorted out by cleaning staff.
Kibble was allowed in every part of the hotel except the dining areas. She even visited the bar with us a couple of times. After we had checked out, we decided to get a drink in the bar before the journey home. It was closed for maintenance, but the staff opened up especially for us, which was a very nice touch.
Breakfast was basic but fine, with competent and attentive service, and the decor of the hotel is individual and interesting (a lot of African wildlife-themed stuff). There's also a garden out the back with a pond, domestic pigeons, etc, which you can see from the restaurant.
The leisure centre is a bit worn-looking in parts, but it is clean and well-equipped, and the staff here were also very friendly.
The only thing that was a bit grim was that the area right outside the main front door seems to be an unofficial smoking area, so we were always having to walk through people smoking. But it's a minor complaint.
All the staff seemed to actually enjoy their jobs, which I find is not always the case in the hotels GrabOne use, and to complete the overall great experience, when I got home, I realised I had left my gym gear in the bathroom, and the hotel posted it back to me for free with no fuss.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Jacksons Hotel and for sharing your feedback on Trip Advisor for other guests. It is absolutely wonderful to hear that you found us to be so accommodating and welcoming. We are a pet friendly establishment and love when guests choose to bring their dogs with them, I hope Kibble enjoyed her break as well.

I do agree with your comments about smokers at the front door, we do have a dedicated smoking area in the garden. It is our responsibility to ensure smokers use the dedicated smoking areas only.

Our staff members will be delighted with your comments and it is wonderful to hear that they assisted in making your stay so enjoyable.

Hopefully we will be welcoming you back to Jacksons Hotel again very soon.

Having enjoyed a pleasant stay at Jackson's Hotel around 3 years ago my wife and I were looking forward to a return for a long weekend, but this time a few small but avoidable issues made for a disappointing visit.

Having booked a Deluxe Double room we were given Room 401. The hotel is large and our room - and I believe all of the Deluxe rooms - was in the new part of the hotel, quite far away from reception. This wasn’t a problem for us, but for less able-bodied people the journey to the room might be too far, comprising as it does 2 elevator rides and several long corridors. The room was of a good size, with a large comfortable bed, lots of storage space and a clean, modern bathroom. There was also a huge patio/balcony area through some sliding french windows. However there was a very noticeable smell of smoke upon entering the room - I believe smoking rooms are available at the hotel but we had not requested one - and the patio/balcony area was covered in cigarette butts and half empty pint glasses.

The wi-fi in the room could only be accessed from the bathroom, despite a router being located 20 yards away in the corridor. Also our room must have been positioned over a side entrance door as banging and shouting could be heard all night. Screaming matches also took place in the corridor outside our room every 15 minutes from about from midnight until 2am. I appreciate that Jackons is a very large hotel and there's little that staff can do about this issue if not alerted to it but it did disrupt our sleep. Also the hotel booklet advises guests to use their in-room telephone to call other rooms by simply dialling the room number, but in our case the room number - 401 - happened to be the same as the telephone number guests were to call to get through to the hotel bar! This led to a couple of calls to our room - one at 3am - asking for room service.

On the plus side the breakfast buffet was quite good - I'd advise arriving before 9:30 though as the queue when we exited the dining hall at around 9:45 was about 20 deep - and the staff, all very young, were generally pleasant. And it's pretty cheap.

Room Tip: Deluxe rooms are in the new part of the hotel which is far from reception and probably best avoided.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for reviewing Jacksons Hotel on Trip Advisor, I do apologise for the few small issues that you encountered during your stay with us, it is disappointing that these issues resulted with you not enjoying your return visit to Jacksons Hotel fully.

I do apologise for any noise disturbance that you encountered during your stay with us, we do try our upmost to ensure that guests aren’t distributed by other guests but sometimes this is beyond our control. The number for room service and the hotel bar is not the same number as your room and I am guessing that other guests must have called your room by mistake.

I am delighted that you enjoyed our breakfast and found our staff to be pleasant.

Hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to Jacksons Hotel again in the near future.
