“Great Experience”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Just back from a lovely night stay at Villa Rose hotel. I had booked a deal for my mum's birthday. Before arriving at hotel I sent emails to staff and all we're answered quickly and were very helpful in finding the right deal for me. The hotel rooms are beautiful and beds are very comfortable. When staying at this 4 star hotel you have to get a spa treatment no words can describe the wonderful experience I had! the staff throughout the hotel delivered excellent customer service! I will definitely be returning to this hotel within the near future and would recommend to everyone!

Room Tip: we were situated on the 1st floor best location as the restaurant is located on 1st floor.

Stayed in the new section of the hotel and was very impressed. We arrived late and the service, from the reception to the late bar, was fantastic. Left the car door open because of the rushing about and received a phonecall letting me know. Staff were exceptional, nothing short of superb and their Customer Service would put many to shame. Food was simply devine and cooked to perfection. Had lunch in Jacksons (hotel next door) one of the days and it simply wouldn't compare to the service or quality of food given to us in the Villa Rose. Can't wait to my next visit....

We stayed for couple of nights in the hotel, the kitchen was good and the staff were really nice, but that is about all that was good.

At first we were given a room 153 which is - I guess - right above the restaurant and the noise coming from the AC or just a fan right under the window was really unbearable. After talking with the reception about this (they did not looked surprised - no idea why they are trying to have guest in this room as I don't think it is possible anyone to agree with the noise) we were given different room which was away from the really noisy kitchen fan.

The room was clean.

One of the drawers had a broken front, and the window even when closed had a pretty noticeable gap from which a constant draught was entering the room.
The room was separated with the next one by a door, and we could clearly hear the people in the next room talking and minding their business and obviously they could hear us too. Clearly meaning that we could have a conversation between the rooms without rising our voices.
Very unpleasant - I am sure for the guests on the other side too.

The breakfast was poor - a semi-buffet with very limited choice and irish breakfast.

The "spa" needed to be booked in advance - you get one hour. A pretty cold shower a jacuzzi with cold-ish water and 2 foot-spa chairs one of which was broken... so one. Overall the spa area looked neglected (some missing tiles, broken buttons etc.)

Overall the hotel is far from the 4 stars. (except the staff)

Room Tip: If you are given room 153 save yourself the time and trouble and ask for different room on the spot.

We'd never considered Ballyboffet as a holiday destination but got a great deal on a 4 star hotel and off we went on a mini break. The hotel is delightful. You won't be blown away by the decor but its modern and bright. It's a family run hotel which might contribute to the warmth you feel from you arrive. A very friendly and helpful receptionist booked us in, arranged our dinner reservation and free Internet acces. The hotel is child friendly and accommodating (the loaned us a travel cot, saving us the hassle of bringing one). The room was perfectly appointed, richly decorated and hygienic ally clean (and I am very fussy!). All of the staff we encountered were particularly friendly, smiley and wished us s good day or admired the baby :). The restaurant is nice, newly decorated. The menu initially ws a bit disappointing, given the decor I'd expected sonething a bit avant gard but found the standard chicken steak and fish dishes you'd get at any restaurant. I was very pleasantly surprised! Yes, we had the fillet steaks but my word can that chef put a dish together. Mine came with tobacco onions, corn on the cob, baby boiled potatoes and a blue cheese sauce ... Had to have been the freshest quality ingredients and well cooked as I thoroughly enjoyed it. We had had the chili beef nacho starter and shared the chocolate Browne with hazelnut ice cream dessert along with a merlot and Irish coffees (best Irish coffees we've had!). Breakfast was included and consisted if a cooked Irish breakfast (sausages bacon eggs Eric) cereals and toast, French pastries. I noted that the hotel served proper fresh morning juices... I'm disgusted by the hotels that downgrade quality and think their customers don't notice... We do notice and dnt go back!!! In our package we were also given access to the 'thermal spa' basically a jacuzzi, steam room and some well presented showers referred to as 'tropical showers & foot spas' etc. no pool or sauna (slightly disappointing) but we're more into treating ourselves to fine food and drink and the hotel had a couple of bars and entertainment which more than makes up for the half an hour I would have pretended to swim. We enjoyed our mini break, we sat in a local bar, drank Guinness and bet on horses. Alternatively, on a good day there are beautiful beaches worth a visit and some historical sites. All in all, we'll be back, I think that says it all.

Travelled here to stay while attending a wedding at another venue. Check in very quick and rooms were immaculate with free still/sparkling water. Rooms massive and very well decorated and airy althiugh a little warm whe we checked in. Breakfast very good with plenty of choice and very quickly served, didnt use spa or t hose facilities so cannot comment. Reception staff very efficient and had plenty of phone calls before we travelled offering us a table for our night of travel for a dinner reservation and to book spa etc. Great communication from hotel indeed! A very pleasurable trip.

Room Tip: Fix your heating before you go to sleep otherwise you will be overheating in middle of the night!

I stayed in this hotel for two nights with my family whilst visiting relatives. We arrived at the hotel before check in and our rooms were ready. There are smoking and non smoking rooms so make sure you state your preference. We were so impressed with the size and quality of the rooms. The dining room was spacious and airy, and the breakfast and evening meal were delightful with excellent choice and service. The bar areas were the best I've ever seen in a hotel and the evening entertainment was wonderful. All the staff (especially on reception) were lovely. We were attending the area on a sad occasion (funeral) and the meal following it was in fact at the hotel also. The function room was set out beautifully and the meal was delicious. It didn't impinge on other residents at all. All in all staying in this hotel relaxed us all and took some pressure off the reason for our stay here. We didn't get to use the spa facilities but would very much like to return in the future. Th hotel itself is set right in the heart of Ballybofey and ideal for visiting other areas. A 4* hotel at exceptionally reasonable prices. Would definitely recommend it.

Stayed here mid week for 3 days and enjoyed the break thoroughly. The hotel is off the main street through an alleyway although can be located by turning right at another hotel, Jacksons. The hotel entrance was impressive and the reception staff were all very helpful throughout our visit. My husband and I both booked a midweek offer at the spa (note this is not included in your stay) on arrival and felt much better after a back and neck massage as our journey had been quite long. Look out for any offers online at the spa before you book the hotel as we felt our 1 1/2 hrs there was worth the money but probably would not have booked if not an offer. The room was on the more modern part of the hotel and was very clean and well presented with tea making facilities, bottled water, biscuits but we did miss a small fridge. We also missed having towelling robes in the bathroom as most hotels provide these. This was the only criticism and everything else more than made up for it. Breakfast was excellent with loads on offer and we ate at the restaurant two nights and had a great meal for good value. We also sampled lunch at the Wee Bar and it too was good value for money. Really was good choice of hotel and good location as we went to Donegal town, Killybegs and right up little mountain roads to the highest cliffs in Europe - Slieve League.
