“Excellent Meal in a Beautiful Setting.”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

Dined in Herons Cove last Thursday and it was really a beautiful meal. I had the Mussels followed by Scallops and my wife had a Seafood Hors D'oeuvres starter followed by Monkfish. It was well presented and beautifully cooked. The Wine Cellar is a feature of the restaurant and you go up and pick your own wine. We drank a Reisling from Villa Huesgen called By the Glass and it was perfect.
The service, the ambience , the value and the view of the harbour are really very special. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Room Tip: Look for a room that looks over the harbour.

We stayed for one night in August and wished we could have stayed longer. However I would have needed to buy clothes in a larger size.
As we booked late we did not have a room with a view, instead we had a twin room at the side which was comfortable, clean and quiet. The weather when we arrived was truly dreadful so we didn't need to sit outside.
Our evening meal was beautifully prepared and the service was excellent. Breakfast the following morning couldn't be improved, basically you tell them what you want to eat! In the morning the view down the cove was lovely and the heron was again on duty as he had been the previous night.

Room Tip: Book early if you want a room with a view.

I spent 3 nights at Heron's Cove and it was possibly the best B+B I have stayed in. For a start the location is just perfect- on a small peaceful harbour which our room overlooked, and we shared a lovely balcony with the next room where we sat and watched the tide come in and the resident herons searching for thier dinner in the water.
The welcome was warm and friendly and all of the staff made us feel very welcome and gave advice on what to see in the local area.
And to top it all the food was amazing! Breakfast was cooked to order and plentiful. Chef would prepare anything within reason from a full cooked breakfast to salmon and scrambled eggs, or pancakes with maple syrup. Fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts and soda bread also provided. Certainly it was a wonderful start to the day. We also ate twice in the restaurant in the evening, and the food was again superb - fresh and well prepared with a good choice of seafood and other items. Excellent value fixed price dinner menu and a fantastic selection of wine.
I will definitely stay here again if I visit this part of Ireland again and totally recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms with a balcony

My husband and I spent last weekend with Sue & her team when we visited for the opening of the upgraded local Coast Guard station house.
Where to start?? There is a part of me that simply does not want to write this review because then more people will know of this great place and it will be more difficult to book a room. Friendly welcome, great rooms, clean, spacious, simply like home from home.
It is nothing posh, just comfortable surroundings with all the staff willing to assist you in your every need. There are only a few rooms so it is nice and quiet at night. The food is simply amazing, dinner is such good value for fresh excellent home cooking- you can taste the love and care in every mouthful. Wines is plentiful, great selection and excellent value- you pick your own from the wine shelf where you can browse at your leisure and read the information about the various bottles. If you need assistance you just ask. Breakfast is cooked to order so again a truly wonderful way to start the day. The beds are sooo good... it always takes me at least one night to settle in but not here; we both had a truly lovely nights sleep.
You should give it a go sometime for a night or more- suits everyone. A truly special place to stay.

We are just home after spending another fab weekend in the Heron's Cove Goleen. We like to spend at least 2 weekends every year in HC. Why?
- we are made to feel so welcome - Sue and all her staff are so friendly.
- we are so well fed! Def BEST breakfast going! - cooked to order! Where else could you ask for and get (the fluffiest!) scrambled egg with grilled smoked salmon (a la Martin Shanahan Fishy Fishy!). Hubby thinks the full Irish is tops too!
- bedroom is cosy, spotlessly clean and patio door opens on to the harbour where said heron struts his stuff!
- dinner is top class, very interesting and competitively priced wines. We had a great find there last night - keeping shtum about it - hope it's still on offer when we return in August!
Take a bow, Heron's Cove! Keep doing what you're doing SO well!

It took a long time to get here from Cork but I'd have to say it was worth it. There are only 4/5 rooms but ours faced out over the cove & the heron did make several guest appearances! The decor is very plain & a bit old fashioned but none the worse for that the beds were comfortable & the shower rooms ( though small ) were spotless & adequate. We paid €60 for dinner, bed & breakfast so we weren't expecting state of the art furnishings. The food was excellent particularly the breakfast which was better than some 4/5 star hotels I could mention. Staff were very friendly & nothing was too much trouble. If you were walking sailing or cycling in the area this place is ideal or even just for a change from the hotel experience

Room Tip: your pretty much assured of good views cos I think only one small room without

The unusually bad July weather when we visited was forgotten about during our stay at this B+B and restaurant in West Cork. Dinner was excellent and the room was overlooking the harbour. Good breakfast also, with pleasant staff. A good spot to relax and convenient for other attractions such as Barley Cove beach and Mizen Head (lighthouse centre).

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room with harbour view if possible.
