Not actually an Abbey, really a Friary, because it's Franciscan, this is one of the loveliest ruins in the West. Built on the foundations of a Norman Castle, with the remains of the towers visible, and with a completely enclosed cloister, the remarkably well preserved structure is a gem. A representative of the Heritage Service can give you vast amounts of fascinating information about the building and the site if you simply ask.

Very well kept ruins of the Abbey. I believe it was destroyed (or mostly at least) by Oliver Cromwell back around 1650 and then partially rebuilt for a short while afterwards.

The Abbey has been both an Abbey and a fortress at times, and is worth the stop for those interested in it's history.

There is not much else to see in the area though.
