Our party spent a night at Ballyhannon castle as part of a week-long trip through Ireland. As much as we enjoyed the rest of our trip, the stay at the Ballyhannon certainly marked the high point of our journey. Before booking the castle, we have researched several other castles, but have chosen Ballyhannon for both what seemed to be the most authentic castle inside and out, but at the same time not sacrificing the conveniences that we all so used to have - modern bathrooms with plenty of hot water, modern kitchen, etc..

Our booking process was smooth and painless, our hostess Margaret made it easy and helped us secure one of only a couple of days that we had at our disposal to be able to stay in the castle. We were greeted by Margaret upon arrival, were explained how to operate the in-room heaters, shown around the kitchen and the bathrooms, and after a short "orientation" we were all set.

Even though we were anticipating the castle for a few days before arriving, it far exceeded our expectations - inside and outside, authenticity, attention to details, ambience, tasteful decorations, candles on the steps of the spiral staircase, the greatly set dining table, two-story great room, convenient bedrooms - all in all, it has blown us away.

The grounds next to the castle were great too - lush greenery, cute ponies etc.
Even receiving our deposit minus electric charges was straightforward and quick.

We would recommend Ballyhannon to anyone - from wedding receptions to casual parties. You will take home unforgettable memories - we sure did.

I have been to this property twice --staying in the castle in 2007 and in the coach house May 2013. The house and castle are separated by a gravel parking area. Each is very private and well appointed, they can be rented separately or together. The property is located in the beautiful, quiet countryside. I worried that my young, adult children may find it a bit too quiet after Temple Bar, Dublin and city center, Galway but I was mistaken --they loved it and were sorry to leave. The village of Quin is only a mile or two down the road. We found several restaurants/ pubs with excellent food and service. I highly recommend " The Abby Tavern" and "The Monks Well". A horseback riding stable is located nearby. The location is perfect for exploring central and southern Ireland as well as the cliffs of Moher. Renting this sort of property is not the same as renting a hotel room, i.e. damage deposit required and you will be charged for utilities. No worries, the property owner is very honest and quick (within days) to refund the deposits. The utilities are very reasonable. "Margaret" is very accessible by email to arrange all the details and meets you at the property to explain everything. She makes you feel very welcome and comfortable. I plan to visit Ballyhannon again soon ------ and, by the way, my daughters plan on having their weddings here ---someday, it's that beautiful!!

We recently stayed at Ballyhannon and loved the definite "authentic" feel of the place - it was very exciting to stay in the stone tower knowing its age and the history - very neat!

Margaret and her husband are the owners and were very very nice and accommodating and took much effort to explain the ins and outs of the place as well as other general helpful information for the area as we were on vacation.

I really only have all "pros" and no "cons" here- the only advice i'd supply is that travelers should consider this like a vacation rental home - like we have in the states - so going into the abode you should be prepared to bring your own supplies and provisions etc - just as you would if you rented a house or cabin on a weekend getaway.
Also, there will be a charge for power usage, which was very reasonable - and we have no complaint about the energy cost - however, i would suggest to the owners that you perhaps show a before and after KW usage and explain the rate so it's 100% transparent. Again, when we've run into energy consumption costs - we usually have the before and after as well as the rate. But, again - i will iterate the overall energy costs were very reasonable - we only thought of this as we where flying home, as it may have been helpful in the onset.

Again, the castle was very cool - and had a great medieval atmosphere to it - as well as being centrally located to lots of Ireland's great sites - Limmerick, Galway, Ennis, Cliffs of Moher - all very close and great to visit.

Thanks to Margaret and her husband! - we had a great time!

Best

We had a wonderful experience in Ballyhannon Castle in November 2012. Between the castle and the coach house we accomodated 13 adults and 6 children for a weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. The castle itself is truly wonderful and its authenticity really added to the sense of occasion. Our guests' feedback was unanimously positive. Margaret did a fantastic job to make sure that allof our needs were taken care of.

We also used the catering services of Brian Mortell who produced a fabulous 5 course meal for the 13 adults and served with true professionalism in the castle's dining room. We didn't have to lift a finger (including the washing up) and again the meal and its location added hugely to the occasion.

Many and sincere thanks!!!

Last december I had my medieval themed wedding there. Any picture that I saw before the day could not really picture how beautiful is the place! Every room makes you feel like a princess and I did not get any special decoration for the wedding, so it's always that perfect! If you like animals there is an amazing surprise: many friendly mini poneis outside! I wish I could take one home!

Christmas 2012 will be etched into our families memories forever! Stone walls, authentic spiral stairs and slot windows, rich and romantic decorations but all the modern amenities to make it a warm and comfortable stay. We pulled off the full Christmas dinner in the fully equipped kitchen, the atmospheric and richly decorated grand dining hall was the perfect place to have our feast and then retired to the most delightful lounge with the log fire keeping us extra toasty. The four castle bedrooms were a perfect match for a group and were very comfortable, cosy and beautifully decorated. The castle has so much more authenticiy, charm and atmosphere than any photo can portray! Margaret and her family did a wonderful job of making us feel welcomed, showing us all the ins and outs for enjoying our stay. All our communication was quickly addressed and so so informative and helpful.
