“UGH!”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

We had the misfortune to have lunch at this hotel. Whilst the service was friendly, the food was absolutely disgusting. I can't comment upon every 'dish' they served but the fish and chips and the roast beef were vile. Why would any hotel employ a cook who would serve up such trash?

“what a shame”
Reviewed July 13, 2012

lovely setting and have to say, a nice hotel. If only we hadnt decided to eat there.

Wont go into details, but by a country mile to worst service we have ever had.

Just for starter the waitress asked what we would like, and as we started to order, she took out her phone and answered it !. That was just the start of a real poor experience amd inedible food,

Was gutted as the hotel was nice and really wanted a lovely meal.

really great working farm nearby though.

ordered carvery food on a sunday afternoon, salads were not chilled , found mould on salad , tables were not cleaned after people eating. cancelled order, went down to bar , one grouchy lady serving in bar had bit of a wait getting a drink. this hotel needs a facelift and has a beautiful lake surrounding it but they do not make the most of it. there was no one on reception waited a few minutes no one came

“Be wary of a mixed blessing.”
Reviewed April 18, 2012

We are sad when we can find little to praise in our travels but we will be honest.

We have travelled extensively so can judge.

Now the good things. The staff are friendly but they do not take reservations for meals as there is no need.

The view from the restaurant across Loch Ramor is pleasant ........ we were there on a sunny day. The location is easy to find right on the N3 Dublin to Cavan Road and you will spot the Hotel in good time.

The Car parking is free and plentiful.

The carvery roast is good, the meat moist and not overcooked.
However they use large scoops to serve vegatable and mash so portion size is much too large. They should consider letting the public serve themselves the vegetables and potatoes.

But sad to say the restaurent is scruffy. The seating had crumbs and debris on it at the tables we were shown to. It is a self service and the trays we used to take a plates and cutlery were filthy. We do not exaggerate.

However the plates were clean and so were the utensils. Chairs were strewn haphazardly around tables. Nobody seems to know how to make the place aesthetically pleasing.

We have relatives in the area and they say the same but we tried it anyway.

Overall a hotel/restaurant poorly run and it is the standard of PRESENTATION that let's it down.
It could be a highly profitable business but the place really needs smatening up to succeed.
The owner should go to the Riverfront restaurant in Virginia to see how things are done.

Now in defence of this establishment, the prices are much less that the Riverfront restaurant in Virginia but that is no excuse for bad presentation.

By the way as was said we have relatives in Virginia but they have no connection to the hotel industry or catering trade and we live in London.

Will this establishment improve? We want to save Trip Advisor readers a dissappointing meal experience. Once again we travel a lot and whilst we are adaptable this hotel deservedly needs criticism to contribute better to the local community.

One final comment on the meals. We noticed that those ordering 'sandwiches/salads' fared better.

Chris & Anna.
