“An Amazing Ecoturism Experience”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Live first hand an active volcano, an awesome night tour, a visit to a batcave, an ancient dormant volcano that is home to thousands of parakeets birds. this is a Must see adventure while in Nicaragua and only about 10 minutes away from Masaya City center.

“Just a crater and a pretty view”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Don't break your necks trying to get here. The view on the other side of the area, across from the volcano and overlooking the laguna was beautiful, but the crater itself was filled with gases that just looked like smoke.

Apparently it's a toss up as to whether or not you'll be able to see much or just fog. It's pretty cheap, and if you don't have a car you can pay for transport that leaves every hour pretty much.

Nice and probably more worth the visit once they open up the other sections of the park (the guard said only one was open at this time because of a small eruption a few years ago).

“Absolutely Stunning!”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

While being up close and personal with a steaming volcano would not be permitted in the United States, this was an extraordinary experience I highly recommend. I understand this is the most active volcano in Nicaragua and it certainly lives up to that reputation. The ability to take pictures from the location is outstanding. Do watch your time because the recommendation at the lip of the crater is 20 minutes because of the contents of the gases from the molten mass in the bottom of the gaping hole in the earth's crust. They call it "Adventure Tourism" and you assume all risks but it's worth the risk!

“Beautiful views”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

While staying in Granada, I visited this volcano by a local tour agency (organised by Oasis hostel where I stayed). By the way to Volcano we had visited Masaya market (nothing special and quite high prices) - you can skip this. Masaya national park is really beautiful place, you may walk there by more walking routes with amazing views around, really spectacular. Just in the parking place, there is the wall behind which you may look directly into the active crater with fog and fire deeply down. Impressive !!
I decided to visit the volcano in the late afternnon, so after getting dark we were able to go to the volcano caves and to spot the bats. They were many, just navigating around us, very good experience!!! At the entrance to the park we got the helmets and lamps, so the walk was pretty safe. Just don t forget good shoes (there are shart volcano rocks ).
