We stayed here for the Big Ears Festival. It certainly was convenient and within walking distance to all of the venues (the Tennessee Theater, The Bijou Theater, etc.) The rooms were nice and the service was excellent. I'd stay here again... For sure.

We almost didn't stay here. I wanted a gym, and found nothing on the website for a gym. But they have free passes to the YMCA which is a great facility and 2 blocks away. This hotel is in the best block of Market Square, is adorable, very upscale with its interiors. Great little hidden "speakeasy" bar off the lobby. The staff was great, both on the phone and when we arrived and checked out or needed anything. The bed was very comfortable. This is a very old building, and parts of it showed, but the quirkiness and uniqueness overcame any downsides of being in an historic building. I much prefer the character of the place. Staff was kind of young and hip. Kind of reminded me of a European hotel, as the rooms were small, but unless you needed the extra room for a play pen, or meeting space, it's just fine. Large flat screen TVs and a large selection of snacks and both a red and white wine available for purchase in the rooms.

The king rooms were larger, and looked over the market square action, so a good view. My queen room on the second floor had no view, with only the HVAC visible to me. I didn't care - I was gone most of every day anyway. Good rain head shower, with products in bulk in the shower (alot more green and sustainable than a bunch of little bottles every day). Because I was buying 10 room nights for a group over 2 days, I negotiated a very small discount, but the price of the rooms was very competitive. Knoxville is very affordable for such a great downtown.

The lobby has apples and free coffee (great coffee) every morning. They have several bikes that you can borrow to tool around in. The parking garage is just around the corner, so pretty convenient. Cost is $7 per day, with no in and out privileges. There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance. Easy to get coffee, a drink or any meal within a 2 block walk. 6 blocks will get you anything. UT campus is not an easy walk, but I'm sure you could get there within 25 or 30 minutes on foot. The people in Knoxville are warm and hospitable. I recommed a visit here!

Room Tip: If you cared, you should probably get a King room on Market Square.

Recently stayed at The Oliver Hotel during a business trip and plan on returning for a leisure trip. We liked the scale of the hotel and some nice touches like the speakeasy-type bar downstairs hidden behind a barn-style door. Tupelo Honey restaurant provides the room service (menu sounded great although we didn't have an opportunity to try it). FYI - Tupelo Honey is known for their great breakfasts, but during the week doesn't open until 9am. Good beds. Friendly, accommodating staff however they seemed a bit short-handed. Front desk attendant also had to valet/retrieve the cars. Our shower/tub did not drain the first day, but once we reported it they took care of it right away - very responsive. Bathrooms need better lighting (a bit dark, especially for women applying make-up), and no additional mirror in the room. Our room was dark too, but could be because we were on the 2nd floor - higher floors could be brighter. Overall a good experience and nice Soho-Grand-NY feeling boutique hotel.

Room Tip: Request higher floor for more day light and/or larger windows.

The Oliver Hotel is such a great choice to stay at in Knoxville. The location is perfect for being near Market Square. It's right around the corner. The front desk staff was so amazingly helpful and nice.

We had a king suite and it was very spacious. It had the cutest pillows on the sofa. The way they decorated it made it feel like you were at someone's home. It was very warm and welcoming. The bathroom was very modern and the lighting was great! (being a girl that is most important).
Another favorite part of the hotel was the bar/lounge downstairs called the Peter Kern library. It's set up just like an old speakeasy. Very cool!
I'd totally stay here again if I was in town.

The Oliver Hotel is a fabulous place to stay and enjoy all that Downtown Knoxville has to offer! The proximity to everything is great! Great Bar - The Library! Staff is wonderful! You can eat breakfast the next morning and never walk outside - Tupelo Honey's! Best night of sleep in a long time - beds are great! It is the only place I stay when I visit Knoxville!

Room Tip: Rooms that face Market Square - fun to people watch!

The Oliver is a charming hotel with fresh fruit in bowls and coffee and cold water provided in the lobby. The staff are pleasant and helpful. The rooms are accessed through a maze of hallway reminding the happy guest that this is not a chain hotel. I loved the little bar in the lobby, which really does look like a speakeasy (I did not even know it was there until my second night) and a back entrance to Tupelo Honey, which serves updated, delicious Southern food to the tired traveler.

Unlike most hotels who pay lip service to environmental efforts, the Oliver really does take steps to be more sustainable. A/C is limited to 68 degrees or above, and heat is limited to 72 degrees or below. Towels placed on the rack were left for another day's use.

My only gripe about the hotel was the poor lighting in the room. I was there for business and there was not enough light to read my paper documents at the desk. The bathroom was so dark that I had trouble seeing to put on my makeup. I suppose this saves energy, too, but it was an unwelcome economization.

As other reviewers have mentioned, you are right in the heart of the Knoxville action at the Oliver. It's a busy area with lots of energy, but be advised that it can be a little loud if you want to be asleep before midnight. Both nights I stayed (mid-week) I was awakened by tipsy people on the street yelling for one reason or another. Fortunately the bed was so comfortable that I was soon getting my z's again.

I just stayed one quick night for a business trip, but honestly I would visit again on a personal trip just to stay here. It is small and cozy but nice sized rooms, one of the best hotel beds I've ever slept on, and in the cutest part of Knoxville. Just charming.

Plus... the valet/clerk/do it all guy who greeted our arrival at 11 pm, was super helpful. He tracked down restaurants that were still open for dinner and was just as friendly as can be.

You guys do it right!
