“Great Reopenning”
Reviewed June 15, 2011

When we stayed the hotel it had only been reopened for about 3 weeks. I understand that it used to be a classic old style hotel. Now it is more modern but still with a classic feel. It still has a few things to complete but it is clearly ready.

The neighborhood is great and very near UT.

The rate was quite reasonable and the entire staff was great.

I’d go back in a heartbeat.

Loved this renovated old historic bakery site! Rooms are well-appointed and spacious. When the bar opens, it will be a speakeasy throwback to the 1920's. The surroundings are luxurious and the staff are wonderful! Located right on the Market Square in Knoxville amid many restaurants and bars.

I'm a huge fan of big cities and the boutique hotels in great neighborhoods that go with it. The Oliver Hotel at Market Square in Knoxville brought that experience to me. Once checked in to our stylish and comfortable room we enjoyed the bars and restaurants that Downtown Knoxville had to offer. The one night we stayed we met so many locals and passer by's. As we met some new friends we took them back to the awesome lounge off the lobby of the hotel for some cold drinks and great conversations. I highly recommend this hotel when in Knoxville for business, leisure and for certain a Volunteers football game.

While trvelling, I was just looking for a spot to make a leisurely two-day trip east. I was surprised twice - a great hotel and a great downtown to spend a Saturday night. This is so much better than the sterile boxes on the interstate.

Everything that I saw appears to have been rehabbed. The room and bath were new, including very nice furniture and a great tv. I had the "expedia view" which is the backside and very quiet. In all, they got all the important stuff right. The lobby is small - no bar, restaurant, exercise room, shopping mall, etc. It is a hotel! The staff is small and very gracious. I hope that they can maintain their attitude with time. The entrance is a little difficult to spot, but GPS took me right there. The whole thing reminds me of many small European hotels, with a small footprint at ground level.

When you walk to the front of the building, you are in the pedestrian area of downtown. This has also been very apparently the recipient of a major overhaul. The square is done, and over half of the buildings have active business. Others are under construction. The square has a number of good eateries and places for entertainment. Another block over is another street with more places including a very nice brewpub. Best of all, people were there! I hope that Knoxville can keep the momentum going.

My advice is to stay here. It is a great hotel. It lacks the expensive amenities that you don't use anyway. Free parking! You can take a brief stroll through an evening's entertainment.

Room Tip: I booked on Expedia.

Even though we live in the area, we wanted an evening "away", and the Oliver was the perfect destination. We stayed in the Oliver suite, and it is lovely. Every staff member was helpful and accomodating especially Dan. He is both friendly and knowledgeable about the Oliver's unique history and the area. The owners of this boutique hotel have great plans, and we look forward to returning.

We visited the recently reopened hotel and were impressed by the brand new furnishings in our room and large double sinked bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful and we could just walk out of the hotel to Market Square. The hotel bar and resturant have yet to open but given the numerous bars, pubs and resturants in the Square this wasnt a problem. There was no dedicated parking but there are two public garages within 200 yards.

My stay at The Oliver Hotel was wonderful. As you enter through the beautiful mahogany front door it sets a tone by framing a Lobby which exudes an elegance unmatched in Knoxville. The staff was incredibly helpful, friendly and energetic; they helped make the hotel what it is by attending to every detail of our stay. You will quickly realize the guest rooms are also unmatched in Knoxville. The beds envelope you with multiple layers of crisp white sheeting topped with a freshly ironed white down duvet. The small queen room we stayed in had all the amenities you could need even the coffee in the rooms is wonderful (it's better that the surrounding cafes!). The bathrooms were large, newly renovated and very clean. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone coming to the Knoxville area.
