“Accepable - watch out for no elevator from garage!”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

The good part is that the location is hard to beat, as it is walking distance to most of downtown. Also, overall it is a perfectly fine hotel in that it is clean and safe. But it is dated in areas and has some oddities. The bathroom was clearly remodeled, and was nice, but the shower was a good six inches above the floor - you feel like you're standing on a stage. Odd, but acceptable. The room also had a weird window set up - it was a set of narrow windows that overlooked the HVAC unit.

Go elsewhere for breakfast - the buffet just isn't that good.

As for service, we had a bit of an issue when we checked in. We were there for a wedding and apparently I booked a room with two full beds. Obviously my wife and I preferred a queen or king. I'm not going to say that it wasn't my fault, but at the same time, their reaction and attitude were a bit surprising. I'm a frequent business traveler and have Gold status with IHG - and have been platinum in the past. They were insisting that they couldn't give me a king or queen without an upcharge. I tried to point out that the hotel having to take care of one bed instead of two beds seems like not a bad deal for the hotel. I also pointed out that if they have rooms available for that night, what does it matter if we get one with a queen bed or two full? In the end, they were willing to give us the room we preferred, but I was taken aback by their reluctance to make a guest happy with a fairly simple request.

One VERY important note - there is NO ELEVATOR FROM THE GARAGE! If you have some serious luggage, park out front and bring it in, then park your car. We ended up walking several suitcases up around the corner from the garage.

Room Tip: Don't get one of the lower floors - the windows are small and overlook the HVAC units.

I booked this hotel because it is centrally located and pet friendly. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. There is plenty of parking in the hotel garage. The rooms were clean and nicely kept. Breakfast exceeded my expectations. I would repeat.

Courtney was a wonderful manager at the front desk. The 11 floor had been newly renovated and we were luckily the first one to stay in a very clean comfortable room with a beautiful view of the city. Everyone at the hotel is extremely accommodating and friendly and then a great downtown location. This wreck this hotel comes highly recommended by me,my mom and my dog.

We stayed here one Saturday night in order to go to a Broadway show at the TN theater. The hotel was updated and clean. Everyone was friendly. It was just a 2 block walk to Market square. My only complaint was hearing a lot of train noise.

I find thid crown plaza to be in the top ten of the Crowns hotels. The room were newly renovated and the bathrooms are great and spot on clean. the morning buffet for $12.00 is really worth the price. This location is right in the middle of downtown so you can walk to market square where there are many good restaurants (Try Trio) and very chic and shabby shops. The city has a saying to keep knoxville shabby which means cool and hippyish. We really had a great time and then spent thaat next day in Clinton, a charming town 20 miles north that bills itself the Antique Capital of Tennessee.

Room Tip: Ask for a window room facing the downtown

We booked a room by calling the phone number from the Crown Plaza web site, upon check-in the front desk manager "Frank Shave" explained that we reserved through a third party lodging company and they should not have told us a King room should be available. Frank was so nice, understanding and took the time to explain even though I booked from their web site phone number the operator should not have told us a king room would be available. Frank's outstanding customer service and the niceness of the night bellman and morning breakfast waitress Katherine (the vegetable omelette had more garlic than an Italian dinner) is the only reason this hotel did not get a Terrible rating from me.

The hotel lobby and rooms are nice, however we checked out early due to the noise in the hotel. The gentleman speaking on the phone in the next room felt like he was talking to us without a wall separating us. We know exactly when each night time train went by as well as when the garbage trucks arrived. We paid a good amount for a small bed and a lousy nights sleep. When we departed early they tried to charge us an early departure fee, until we complained and explained why we were leaving.
We will never return to this hotel!

Room Tip: Go to another hotel!

The staff was great and you can't beat the location for a game, but there are so many annoying small details. For instance:

-door card reader didn't work even after they came to "fix" it

-really uncomfortable beds

-toilet ran loudly every time

-bad shower (doesn't get warm)

-breakfast buffet was almost $30 for two people and they food was cheap stuff they just hear up

-TV didn't work

-very nice lobby, but everything else was not as good
