“Good place to stay downtown”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

Clean rooms. Convenient to downtown, especially Market Square, which has some great restaurants and bars. Pillows are too small and there is no room safe. Like most hotels with wi-fi, it seems, the wi-fi signal is spotty. Great choice near downtown.

Our room was very hot ac not working. We complained to the manager, who brought us a tiny fan. When we complained further he said we could leave? Is this service? $150.00 per night. Would never recommend.

We selected this hotel because we needed to be downtown. We weren't sure what to expect, but our experience was entirely satisfactory. The staff was courteous and helpful, and our room was clean and comfortable with everything in perfect working order. This is an older property that has aged well. Breakfast in the restaurant was a bit of a chore because, it appeared, there was not enough wait staff to serve the number of diners. Our waitress had to hustle, but she was equal to the task and kept a smile on her face. I will stay here again any time I desire a downtown location in Knoxville.

We purchased a night at Crown Plaza at a fundraiser and recently used the voucher for a staycation. We had stayed at this hotel when it was owned by a previous hotel chain about 10 years ago. I was pleased to find on arrival the hotel had been renovated and upgraded. At check in we were greeted pleasantly. Service was quick and efficient. I can't say enough about the staff. Each member of the hotel staff from maintenance people to restaurant servers, we encountered smiled, greeted us, and asked if we needed anything.

Our room was on the 12th floor overlooking the adjoining downtown area of Market Square. The view was a wonderful surprise as a music festival and a Farmer's Market were scheduled on the square that weekend. Room decor was tasteful. The room was large and comfortable and had a sitting area as well as king bed. All areas were neat and clean with the exception of a room service tray outside our door that apparently been left there overnight. The hotel has a large dining room. For breakfast we chose the extensive buffet, but made to order items were also available from the menu. Covered free parking in the attached garage was also an added bonus.

We'll definitely revisit the Crown Plaza for another staycation soon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking Market Square.

I am not sure I have the language skills to express how awful our dinner was. The menu had a very poor selection, loads of heavy cream sauces and not a lot of choice. So, we both opted for steaks. The $24 steak did not come with salad, so I ordered a salad with a balsamic dressing - - - -it was totally a Caesar salad, bottled dressing and pine nuts. (?) I asked the server if that was the salad I ordered; he said it was. The rolls were of the plastic bag grocery store variety. My steak was not only overcooked, it was nearly impossible to cut through the gristle. The server noticed I had barely touched my food, and did ask what was wrong. I told him it was overcooked and tough; he took it away without a word, offering neither solution nor apology. The restaurant was occupied by several students with meal tickets. Perhaps Mahogany has found the student niche? If so, stick with burgers. Avoid this place.

A great clean, nice hotel in downtown Knoxville, amidst the CBD (a small one) and around the corner from the main street with shops, theatres, restaurants and bars. Very nice, would definitely go back to Knoxville and this hotel again
