“Best Mexican in KX HANDS DOWN”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2012

You cant say you have had authentic mexican outside of Mexico in Knoxville without going to Senor Tacos. My husband and I have been going weekly for over 6 years and still eperiment with new things on the menu and each time they are wonderfule. Our new favorite is the Carnitas con Chile but with Ranchero!!! Nice kick to it.

And of course there is the free salsa bar and I am talking selection not just a bowl of salsa!

“Not impressed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2009

OK, first off, I'm still looking for a place that even comes close to what I was used to in Texas. I read some reviews about this place this morning and was exited to see people rave about their fish tacos. Off we went to give the place a try. Inside the place was OK but nothing to write home about. the salsa bar we read about was a bit sparse but at least there were choices. The chips were average but the guacomole was really good. The fish taco were made with heavy battered fried fish with no sauce or anything on them . The soft shells were dry and tasteless. My wife's flautas were greasy and one of the two she received had only a little chicken in it. The sides were very ordinary and overall we gave it two big thumbs down. Guess we'll keep looking; So far, the best I've had in Knoxville is Cancun on Cedar Bluff.

“Best Mexican food in Knoxville”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2008

Without a doubt the best in Knoxville, I eat there at least weekly and the food is always consistently good. The top shelf margaritas are to die for, not to keen on the lime margarita but they use a store bought mixer. Now the top shelf margarita on the other hand they hand mix the mixer using orange juice ect. and gives a great taste. Plus you don't get that sick feeling that you get from store bought mixers that are way to sweet. The menu is widely varied, they have a soup made of fish filets, shrimp, calamari and whatever else that my daughter loves. I'm not a seafood person but I will take her word for it. Most of the staff are friendly and courteous. Birthdays there are great they sing happy birthday, which I know some people hate but they make it so sincere and lighthearted that you really find yourself loving it. The salsa bar is excellent with salsa made fresh from scratch daily. On the weekend you have to try this soup called Posole, is made of pork and hominy and is wonderful. This from someone who does not like hominy, but has become my favorite thing to eat on saturdays. It's only served on saturday and sunday if they don't run out, a once a week treat, add a splash of lime some oregano and your good to go, or if you are like me some hot sauce. They do a great job of keeping the food good without it being to spicy for those with a delicate stomach, just enough to taste great and not have to pay for it later. Granted the outside of the building could use some work, but if you want some place to go enjoy the food and have a drink in a nice relaxed family enviroment and not break your wallet, then this is the place for you.

“A tad overrated, but still good.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2008

Senor Taco has a local reputation of being the best Mexican restaurant in town, despite their somewhat unappealing housing (a prior reviewer described it as looking "dumpy" on the outside, and that's about right). The interior is clean and well-kept, however, so don't let the building fool you. Alongside the expected fare, Senor Taco boasts a large number of seafood entrees, a margarita bar and a salsa bar. They don't always deliver on those - the salsa bar, in particular, seems kind of "so what" if nothing on it tastes particularly good, but to the right customer this place is a welcome relief from so many of the higher-priced, lower quality establishments of like type in town. Generally I found that the entrees were better than their local equivalents, but only by so much - as if they've got better hands cooking and preparing, but still using the cheapest wholesale ingredients possible. So whether I'd recommend them to tourists is iffy - in terms of regular Mexican food, I'd say Senor Taco falls somewhere in the slightly above average range. Those who enjoy a slight culinary adventure in the field will appreciate it more.

(Oh yeah, and my wife thinks the little cartoony taco on the outside sign is really cute.)
