The Copper Cellar is a Knoxville institution. It has been here since i was a kid in the 1970's. Last night was the first time i have ever been to it and i loved it. The atmosphere is awesome. It really is like walking into a cellar that has been reburbished with high end decor. It is very dimly lit which is nice. The restaurant has dark maroons and browns, heavy woodwork and comfortable seating throughout which is relaxing. We started off with the calamari which is probably one of the best calamaris i have ever had. The dipping sauces were great....especially the one that had horsereadish in it. Alot of places cant seem to serve good calamari but The Copper Cellar does. I had the Maryland Crab Cakes for my entree and they were incredible. Absolutely no filler that i could detect....just 100% spicy crab. I got the twicy baked potatos which were creamey and full of spice. My friends had the prime rib which literally made my mouth water just looking at them. So very pink and juicy looking. One of my friends had the spinich dip as her side and that was the best spinich dip ever. The Copper Cellar is a restaurant well worth your time seeking out and enjoying.

Food is always great. Very nice for a dinner date as there typically aren't many children there. It's dimly lit and pretty quiet. Service has always been great!

I visited the Copper Cellar West Restaurant at 7316 Kingston Pike (865-673-3422) near the mall and was not impressed.

The service was very slow, the atmosphere was very dark (if you like dark pubs you might like this), and the food was average. I ordered the special: salmon over sauteed spinach. The salmon was cooked just right so they get great points for that. The sauteed spinach though was so salty that it was hard to eat. They also used either garlic oil or something with an overpowering garlic flavor for the spinach that did not help its taste. The salad was good but nothing special.

Overall, if you want really good food, this is not the place to go. If you want average food in a pub atmosphere that's somewhat overpriced, this place is for you.
