Plum Tree is housed in a ramshackle little building off Kingston Pike near West Town Mall. For a long time the decaying wood siding was painted grey, but recently they opted for an odd day-glo green which looks strange, but I guess it makes them more visible on such a busy road. There's a patio out front with furniture, but I have yet to see anyone use it. The inside actually features some mildly plush (if clearly aging) accomodations, the rows of private booths are kind of cute. Plum Tree offers your standard Chinese menu with a few Thai-type offerings. Honestly, this establishment varies a lot in terms of food quality - I find that they do certain dishes (fried rice, for example) very well, and yet they really take a nosedive on some others... Whenever I've ordered a large dinner entree I've been disappointed by the quality (clearly old ingredients, badly prepared meat), and the "Thai" dishes are a bit of a joke (some rice noodles drenched in soy sauce??). Let's put it this way. If you like *light* Chinese fare - soups, rice, noodles - Plum Tree is a good pick in town. The heavier, pricier entrees are not worth the tasting or the indigestion afterwards.
