I know they want us to say a lot but this is a hit for ANY museum. Not sure how they got so much packed into this building but if you want to know anything about this area ... it is in there. Well done and they should be proud to have accomplished such a nice atmosphere

Small museum and easy to navigate. Offers a lot of different exhibits so should be something for everyone. Neat mummies and some decent info on Civil War Battle of Fort Sanders. As other reviews mention, allow a little extra time to navigate university traffic and get a parking permit. Can't beat the admission price... it's free.

It is great museum displays and it's FREE! Many displays are premanent some are temporary. Worth going to and it's on the University of Tennessee's campus.

Being on the University of Tennessee campus, parking can be "interesting" sometimes, so a Sunday afternoon visit is often the best.

McClung Museum (no admission charge) has a number of permanent exhibits including, for example, "Archaeology & Native Peoples of Tennessee" and "Geology & Fossil History of Tennessee". These are maintained and are quite interesting.

In addition, visiting exhibits rotate throughout the year and cover a wide range of topics. One currently on display is "Continents Collide: The Appalachians and the Himalayas January 14, 2012—May 20, 2012". See their website for details on current and upcoming items.

Of course, there is the requisite museum shop as well ;)

Maybe not a place to visit every week, but McClung Museum is certainly worthy of return visits. Haven taken anthropology classes in the basement lecture hall, it is especially interesting to revisit for me.
