“a look into Knoxville's history”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

The Old City is a revitalized gem in downtown Knoxville. Plenty of parking, lots of shops and dining, places for coffee and a snack. Lots of nightlife, but charming in the daytime as well.

“Interesting architecture, great vibe”
Reviewed June 3, 2013 via mobile

Its a bit odd that tripadvisor has a separate listing for the Old City as it is an area of town rather than a specific venue.

The Old City is small but hosts some of the best night life in the city as well as its own particular vibe.

As for the folks complaining about safety .. what a joke. Ignore those poor souls and hope they get out of the house from time to time.

“What's not to like about old buildings?”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Old City in Knoxville is one of those places where you can feel the vibe of the past if you stop to listen. What's great about this place is that new businesses are moving into the original old buildings and rennovating them instead of tearing them down, thus preserving the heritage and vibe of the past. Walking down the alleyways and looking up and down for architectural quirks of interest is one of my favorite past times. Whether it's touring the rail cars at the nearby former railway depot, visiting Historic Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, lunching at the Urban Cafe or shucking oysters at the Crown and Goose, every turn of the road or sidewalk is certain to give you a historic feel for this part of downtown Knoxville.

“Falling Apart At The Seams”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

It's just getting a little too dangerous for my taste down in Old City. During the day? No Problem but as others have said it's best to get out by dark. This is not based on a "once in a blue moon" visit either. Barley's is one of the best places to bounce in. Bartenders ALWAYS at it and doing their thing, upstairs you can look at the ceiling and see where the old partitions used to be when the ladies of the night were booming a hundred years ago. Thick, hard-planked floors, architectural madness and a bathroom I think you need to see. Really! But - it's not worth my life. And it's a shame some good business owners are being rattled by the "element" but that's the lack of support by local law enforcement; be on guard y'all.
