“Historical Authentic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2007

We compare every B&B with the Hawley House for we seek only those that are historically authentic, have warmth and comfort to remind us of the era in which the house was first built. Marcy Hawley is exceptional in taking care of her guests and each gourmet breakfast is unique and varied daily. We have stayed there many times and in each of the three rooms and love the trains that pass by for that too is part of the ambience and history of Jonesborough itself. After exploring the many stores in town only two blocks away, return to the inn, select a book and unwind. Especially cozy in winter with the fireplace and snacks she has available. Without a doubt, a must on any traveler's list of historic inns!

Had a "GREAT" experience! The accomodations were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the decor, not only within the home but the surrounding area as well. Food was great and the Inn Keeper went out of her way to provide a special breakfast for the business oriented guest. The "Train" was a special treat for me. It brought back very fond memories of my childhood days in Jonesboro, IN. Snuggles could have stayed around the whole time as far as I am concerned. A very personable "weiner dog" that loved to have her tummy rubbed.
Looking forward to our next visit - hopefully internet access will be up and running by then.

We stayed at the Hawley House for two nights...it was one of the most enjoyable experiences we have ever had. The room was incredible (The General Francis Preston room)...beautifully decorated with antiques and everything about it made us feel right at home. The breakfasts were wonderful...Marcy, the owner, is an excellent cook and provides a very relaxing atmosphere for meals. We loved being able to sit outside in the evening and watch the world go by...there were several trains that passed by during out stay which were fun to watch and added to the unique experience of this B & B. We enjoyed meeting Marcy and her dog, Snuggles. She provided us with a lot of local history and was so friendly we felt as though we had known her for years! We will definitely plan to stay with her again when we are in the Jonesborough, TN area. We would recommend this Inn to anyone who is looking for a wonderful stay in the oldest building in the oldest town in Tennessee.

The ambiance was peaceful and relaxing, the company enlightening, and the food was terrific! The entire house has been impeccably decorated by a true preservationist. I have visited this location on more than one occasion and have been truly impressed time and again. Hawley House is indeed a perfect getaway for anyone!

There is no better way to relax and enjoy spring break than in the mountains of East Tennessee! We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night visit to the Hawley House in Jonesborough. The innkeeper was the most gracious hostess in the universe. Paula Deen has nothing on her! She cooked the most fabulous breakfasts one could ever imagine. Our first day we were surprised with pecan crusted french toast and the next day with garden vegetable eggs. The spiced peaches and raspberry pears were also a nice touch. Garlic herbed eggs and sausage and bacon along with the two inch thick biscuits really made our day! We could not get enough of the relaxing front porch which allowed us to watch the trains go by and wave at the local townspeople. There are so many antique shops and gift shops to visit and Marcy's directions were the best. She was just a delight and the information she shared about the oldest house in Tennessee made the trip the best ever. I have never seen my husband so relaxed in the 31 years we have been married. We fully intend to return as often as possible.

The Hawley House is very historic with lots of antiques to ponder about. My favorite part of the house was the huge porch with the rocking chairs; you can sit out there in the evening sipping tea while watching day turn into night in this historic place, and get a few friendly waves from the town folk. It's just beautiful and very quiet. The Inn is also very, very close to the town which has lots of little shops to walk through; even The Salt House (a historic shop) is just across the railroad tracks. There is a train that comes and goes but mostly you just sleep right throw it. Marcy, the innkeeper is very knowledgeable about the town and is eager to tell you of places to visit. The rooms are very neat and homey and the beds very comfy. Breakfast was prepared for us every morning and ready at 8:30. Her recipes are delicious, we had French toast one morning and then garden basket eggs the next. This town has a lot of history and so does this house. We had a lovely time with Marcy and our family.

What better way to experience the historic town of Jonesborough than to stay at the oldest house in the town? Hawley House has become an annual escape for me. My favorite room is the one that overlooks the town square. It has antique furniture and furnishings that remind me of overnights with my grandmother and it is comfortable and welcoming.
Marcy, the inn keeper, not only loves people, she loves Jonesborough and wants her guests to have a wonderful experience there. She is full of information about the history and activities in the town and surrounding area, and has never steered me wrong when asked about places to eat or things to see. Her breakfasts are great, as are the homemade cookies she puts out for guests to enjoy.
Hawley House is on a hill at the edge of the town square so it is within easy walking distance of a variety of shops, including Tennessee Quilts. While there try a meal or two or three at Dogwood Lane Cafe by the courthouse.
