We ended up leaving without staying after checking in at the lobby. First, we were surprised to learn that they have no elevator after we realized we were placed on the 3rd floor. This situation presented some physical problems for us. We were told us we should have requested an elevator so we would have been placed on the ground floor. (I felt it was odd for a 3 floor hotel not to have an elevator. We didn't need a handicap accessible room -- just needed to avoid stairs. I've never heard of requesting an elevator.) My husband went up to the room and discovered that the bathroom wasn't clean (tub was especially dirty). The front desk clerk was friendly, but she had no authority to make decisions beyond issuing keys. We were informed that a manager would not be available until the next day and that only one person could release us from our reservations, despite our dissatisfaction with the room we were assigned. We were offered a room on the 2nd floor (smoking - not so good for asthma and severe allergies, and still up a flight of stairs). After realizing nothing could be done to resolve our issues on site, we ended up leaving and calling customer service on the national helpline and searching the area for almost 2 hours to find alternate arrangements, as the everything locally was saturated with travelers attending a national festival. It took another day to resolve our request for a courtesy cancellation. Thankfully, they agreed to the courtesy cancellation in the end. It didn't make us feel very comfortable that a manager on duty was inaccessible at any point during our stay. I'm glad they agreed to cancel our reservations eventually. It just took a lot of effort and worry to get to that point.

Room Tip: Be sure to note this hotel does not have an elevator, if that is an issue for you.

The Super 8 is adequate for a quick stay in Johnson City. The lobby, halls and rooms were clean. The shower had good pressure and lots of hot water. The bathroom floor could use a regrouting though. Bed was not firm enough and not enough pillows. Very quiet neighborhood and lots of shops and restaurants in general vicinity.

I stayed here in June 2012 on a business trip to Johnson City. The Wifi was reliable, the building was quiet and the microwave & fridge worked. Aside from that the room was clean, and comfortable.
My only issue with the room was the location of the power outlet behind the desk causing me to have to pull the desk out to plug my laptop in.
Also, there is a weird bar next door called the Crow Bar. As I understand it, that place can get kind of rough.

you must, but, consider the much nicer Holiday Inn right across the street. The bathroom needed a big bottle of bleach. Our non-smoking room had been abused by smokers. We did exchange our stinky pillows for nicer ones. Breakfast can be purchased at any number of fast food places nearby. The breakfast provided is cello pastry and watered oj.

Room Tip: they are pretty much all the same.

The bathroom needed some help. The toilet seat was was badly damaged. The window (we were on the first floor) didn't have a lock on it just a stopper. The main back door was supposed to be locked and need a key to get in - the door wouldn't shut to even lock.

I chose this hotel based primarily on location and price; it's a 10min drive from ETSU and for the purposes of my one-night trip I just needed a place to stay. Given those parameters, the hotel did its job admirably. The carpets and bathtub could use a freshening, but it appears that the sinks were redone and the beds were pretty comfortable for its class. Rooms were quiet and parking plentiful. The microwave and minifridge were also a bonus, although I expect a slightly better breakfast- more variety would be nice. The front desk person was friendly, and the hotel is easy to find and situated near various restaurants and grocery stores.
