We just stayed in the cabins last week and it was great. In 2012 we took our travel trailer and stayed in the campground on the hill 10/1/12-11/1/12. It was beautiful up there and we did horse back riding in the hills, we attended campfire shows at night and did all the tours and sight seeing around the ranch. People there are so friendly and just layed back. Cissie Lynn has a store across the street from the ranch and has awesome breakfast in the morning and sandwiches for luch among other stuff. Would highly recommend stopping in and taking in some of the beautiful sights and hospitality!!

Traveling on the I-40 through Tennessee, just a little over an hour west of Nashville, we decided to take a little detour to see the ranch of country star, Loretta Lynn. To get to Hurricane Mills from the I-40, it’s a 7-mile drive on Hwy. 13, winding through lovely countryside. The Loretta Lynn Ranch is located in a gorgeous rural setting with a lot of land around it. Before you get to her home(s), you’ll see that there are also cabins and an RV Park available for those who want to stay in the area.
When you reach the “LL Ranch,” you’ll see Loretta’s Plantation Home beyond a large pasture. Continue on, the road will take you to her home on the left and everything else on the right (including parking). Tickets are sold next to the little Post Office, in the “Western Store.”
The guided tours are about an hour long. You will see the Butcher Holler Home replica, the simulation of Loretta’s Daddy’s coal mine, and then board the shuttle and be taken across the street to Loretta’s Plantation Home. As I recall, the cost of a tour ticket to see these places and her large Coal Miner’s Daughter Museum was around $28. There is no cost to see the other three “museums” (including a room filled with dolls and other gifts from Loretta’s fans).
Visiting the home in which she formerly resided, you will see the main floor, but not go upstairs. The home is filled with pictures, keepsakes, and collections, including Avon decanters! The furniture is very 60’s-70’s. Our tour guide pointed out that Loretta’s current residence is just across the driveway, behind the plantation home which is open to visitors.
We were there just before Halloween and the fall colors on the trees were beautiful. It was not crowded at all and we never had to wait for anything. Our tour guide was quite a character and really made the tour fun for us. For any Loretta Lynn fans, I’d highly recommend it! Oh, and if you ARE a Loretta fan, you’ll find all kinds of souvenirs that she has personally signed. A shopkeeper said that sometimes, she’ll just go over there and sign, sign, sign!

While driving on I-40, signs for the Loretta Lynn Ranch caught my attention. Having left Nashville a few hours prior, and feeling sorry for it, my boyfriend and I exchanged a glance and turned off at the next exit. Driving 14 miles out of the way at a pace envied by Mad Mrs. Leroy Brown was certainly worthwhile!

We did not have time to go to the museum, but the grounds were kept up very nicely, and the woman at the entrance stand was quite helpful. We spent a good two hours meandering the grounds and taking photographs by the ranch house.

This is certainly something we'll come back to, if for no other reason than to be become better acquainted with the coal miner's daughter.

After my first ranch tour I make it every mid-April. Just can't get enough ! Tim San Francisco. Hopefully I will meet Ms Loretta at her ranch on an upcoming visit.

$25 gets you a guided tour of a reproduction of Loretta Lynn's childhood home, a replica coal mine tour and a tour of Loretta and Dew Lynn's mansion. The museum was GREAT. You can spend hours and never see everything. A lot of the outfits Loretta wore on stage were displayed. Loretta had just gotten back from touring so her bus was parked behind the BIG mansion. We were hoping she'd make an appearance. The guide could have been a little more informative at times. he took us past a workshop and a doll museum but we never went in. There are two gift shops with authentic autographed items. Watch the GPS directions they took us on all the back roads and added more than 45 minutes to our trip. Ask the locals for directions.
