Looking for something other than the typical highway restaurants, we stopped at Bar None BBQ based on the a tip from another website we found online as we drove along. We were SO GLAD we stopped here! What an experience we'll never forget. This restaurant is not very easy to find because of a "neighbor" who blocked the view of the place with truck trailers--but look for the banner that says "BBQ" hanging high above the truck trailers from a wire. It is across from the Shell gas station
The meal was nothing fancy, served on styrofoam plates, but finger lickin' good. This place is the real deal: wonderful pulled pork, BBQ brisket, the BEST ribs, all from a smoker going non-stop outside. Then sitting and talking on the porch with the owner Eddy Rochelle was a real treat--this was the icing on the cake. His wife gets up at 4 AM every day to make the cole slaw and potato salad (my wife said it was the best potato salad she's had in years), Eddy gets up at 5 AM to put on the meat to smoke. He's been working on the recipe for his rub on the ribs for 20 years. It was FANTASTIC. He only uses a dry rub and the meat falls off the bone. They're closed on Sunday and Monday - but that's when he works on making his weekly 5 gallons of home-made sauce. Both look like they're retirement age, but they are going strong... with great southern hospitality. If you see Eddy on the porch, don't miss out on hearing his story...ask him to tell you how Bar None BBQ came to be. (He grew up as a kid on the land right there which was his family's farm.) The dinner rolls they serve with the meal melt in your mouth. I definitely recommend you take the time to stop here for lunch or dinner. I don't know if we'll ever be on I-40 again between Nashville and Memphis, but if so, we will make sure we stop here. If you need to find it on Googlemaps or on your GPS here is the address:
15521 Hwy 13 S
Hurricane Mills, TN 37078
