We took the kids out on the level, paved 2 mile trail around the lake and saw quite a few deer who are not afraid of people at all. We have seen turkey, rabbits, and an assortment of birds also. My wife and I have day hiked the Volunteer Loop Trail that runs along the lake and have seldom seen anyone else out there. There is even a primitive overnight camping area at the end of that trail and that is hard to find so close to Nashville. The canoe rentals are okay too.
