Germantown Commissary is not easy to find, unless you are from the area. But, it is worth the look. Very good food, lots of options on the menu. Still don't understand the deviled egg with dinners. Deserts are mammoth. BBQ is above average. Not much parking and I mean not much parking. I have never had to wait very long to be seated.

While visiting the Memphis area we were told not to miss eating here. We arrived at 4:30 and had no wait in this tiny restaurant. We had the BBQ nachos, a terrible selection, have had better nachos at the dollar theatre. The ribs were edible only after putting sauce on them, no flavor on their own. The only saving grace here was the coconut cream pie, by far the best pie I have ever eaten. Would return for desert but nothing else.

A small little place with the best ribs around! Very crowded but orderly and fun. The menu was extensive and fun to browse through. We ordered and waited a bit but the product was well worth the wait. EXCELLENT all around!

Loved the pulled pork sandwich. The waiter was great. I got a salad to go for my lunch the next day - I didn't love it. But then this is not a salad place. Great place for BBQ.

I asked for barbeque while visiting family in the area and The Commissary topped their lists of favorites. The place is in a non-descript building with a small interior packed with "country" memorabilia. The lines were long making one wonder "is this worth the wait"? Once seated, although service was slow, the food qualifies as very good. Yes, I've had better pulled pork but not often which made the wait, slow service and noise level well worth the trip. The famous banana pudding, lacked the rich banana flavor one comes to expect when freshly made and was somewhat disappointing. Overall, this is a great restaurant with a loyal local following. The ambience is simple (but then shouldn't a barbeque place be just that?), the service seemingly inconsistent and the quality okay to very good.
