“Didn't Live Up To Its Reputation”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

Overall, we had a fine experience, but the restaurant failed to live up to it's reputation.

The restaurant had a fun and lively environment. The dinner menu was excellent, and was only surpassed by the bar/drinks menu.

Service, however, was acceptable at best. We had ordered drinks and appetizers. The first round of drinks and most of the appetizers were consumed prior to our waitress returning for our dinner order. Later in the evening, we ordered drinks prior to dinner arriving (~10 mins prior). Our drinks did not arrive until after we had eaten dinner. We typically tip 20-25% on a nice dinner, but we were surprised when the restaurant automatically added 20% for our party of 6.

The food was overall very good. One item, however, completely missed the mark. The "Red Pony BLT (Bacon Lobster Tomato)" dish looked amazing on the menu. However, it was served over "yukon-gold potato" ravioli, which were undercooked and bland. The noodle-component of the ravioli was undercooked and VERY starchy, with all of the noodle sticking together. The filling was a bland lump of luke-warm potato. They would have been better off serving the BLT over smashed yukon-golds, or better yet, a risotto or couscous or grits.

Other dishes were very good, while others were mediocre. The Guacamole and Mediterranean Sampler got us off to a great start. They certainly know how to cook a great steak - although lots of restaurants do this well. Their "Grilled Kale" tasted like it was straight out of a campfire, very strong wood/fire/ash flavor. Too strong for us, but maybe others like this.

There are not a lot of fine dining selections in Franklin, Tennessee. We would probably give this spot one more chance to live up to its reputation, but given the other choices in the area, we won't be running back.

“Mixed feelings”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

We went to the Red Pony as it was recomended by a friend. It took too long for the hostess to seat us in the dining area. Still don't understand why as the dining room was empty. Drinks are pricey: $11.50 for a Scotch. We were given two different menus. "Whoops! Sorry! One of them is the old one!" Then the waiter brought an offering from the chef which was nothing but fried tubes of dough with a lemon sauce (which was lacking in flavor) poured over it.
However, the main course was good as well as the dessert. Our server was also pleasant and friendly.

“Spectacular!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We ate there to celebrate a family event. The salads were excellent and the entrees were spectacular. I strongly recommend taking the time for a more leasurely dinner. Desserts were great as well! Absolutely no issues with service despite being a weekend evening.

“Great Find”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

This restaurant has consistently good food everytime I go. There is outdoor dining on the back deck, which is sort of nice in the summer. It is usually crowded, so be sure to make a reservation. It is a little pricey, but the food is outstanding.

“Solid food, shlocky Service”
Reviewed November 18, 2012 via mobile

Food is good and solid, atmosphere is upscale and trendy, have dined here a dozen times or more and tonight the waiter wore us out trying to upsell. Would you like to add 3 shrimp to your order? how abut a petit filet. No salad? No appetizer. Really left a bad taste and created an adviserial relationship with the restaurant. Seems to be the norm as we heard other waiters doing the same thing.
