Description: Granite City Food & Brewery(R), a casual dining restaurant with an on-site brewery. Our initial restaurant commenced operations in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in June 1999. Our second restaurant, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, commenced operations in December 2000, and our third restaurant opened to the public November 20, 2001 in Fargo, North Dakota. We now have 26 stores operating in 11 different states. At Granite City Food & Brewery(R), we serve signature beers, including Duke of Wellington (an English ale) and Broad Axe Stout (an authentic Irish beer), and entrees such as London broil. We offer a broad menu of items that are prepared fresh daily and are served in generous portions at reasonable prices. Our handcrafted beers are moderately priced and offer unique styles and flavors not typically produced by major breweries. Our founders, Mr. Wagenheim and Mr. Burdick, have over 52 years of combined hospitality industry experience. Mr. Wagenheim's experience includes that of corporate executive, owner/operator, manager and consultant for hotels, resorts, and individual and multi-unit restaurant operations. Mr. Burdick, a brewing chemist, has over 30 years experience in the restaurant, hospitality and brewing industry in both corporate and private positions. Fermentus Interruptus™Shortly before we opened our third store, we launched our patented brewing process, Fermentus Interruptus™, which makes micro brewing for multiple locations more efficient. This process, conceived and designed by Mr. Burdick, allows us to ship sweet liquid called wort, from our central brewing facility to individual stores. When this liquid reaches the stores, we begin the fermentation process and complete the brewing. We use Fermentus Interruptus at all of our Granite City Food & Brewery(R) locations.

first time local visitor tonight 03/02/13. 45 minute wait so we sat in the bar and had a drink and appetizer. bill in the bar was $45 and change. left $60 and got seated at a table. an hour later waitress from the bar came by the table with a $63 bill and said we shorted her. after several discussions with manager the bar bill was actually $55. think they gave us the wrong bill the first time and then gave us a larger bill later which was found by manager to be wrong. embarrassing at the least. they were so busy and had so much going on it appeared they didn't know exactly know what was going on. no apology they just corrected the bill. never going back

“Great food, great variety -- beautiful interior”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

We've been here a few times since they opened recently and have tried multiple items on the menu. Everything we've had has been great! I especially like the Asian Chicken Salad and the Buffalo Chicken Wrap. The service has been great (with one exception, when I went for lunch one day and the food took over 45 minutes -- to the managers credit, he handled it very well and comped the meal without a murmer of complaint from me).

The beer is my favorite of all the breweries in Franklin (much better than Cool Springs Brewery & Boscos). It's extreamly popular right now, with huge crowds taking advantage of their happy hour ($3 for 25 ounce beers!)

My only suggestion for improvement is to do something with the hostesses. There's a team of people up front when you walk in, but somehow they still seem disorganized. Once we were sat in the overflow room, even though they were about to shut it down -- they seem to not really know what they're doing. And they try to be friendly, but come off as awkward. It seems not many of them have actual experience in the restaurant world.

But all that is hardly a reason not to love Granite City. Great food, great waitstaff who are eager to please - and best of all, outstanding beer! We're so glad this restaurant opened just down the street from us!

“Great New Find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

We love to find breweries and good restaurants to try, so Granite City, which is just a couple of miles away from our home, was a delight. There is a huge bar area that was loud and lively. The food was slightly overpriced, but was very good. Three shrimp tacos were $13.95 where they would typically be around $10 at most restaurants in the area. The beers were almost all better than average and very reasonably priced. They offer a Mug Club for a $10 lifetime membership fee. Members get their first beer free and get a 25oz beer for the price of a 20oz beer on future visits in addition to building up points to use toward prizes and a 10% discount on your most expensive menu item on each visit. We will definitely go back, if only to enjoy a great beer in an oversized frosty mug!

New place to be. Food was good. Shrimp appetizer was great. Filet was good, although typical. Restaurant was busy and somewhat noisy.

“Nice new place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013 via mobile

I only came in for drinks but I'm loving the atmosphere in this place. I can't wait to check it out again! Usually our friends get together at Jonathan's but I am hoping this is our new spot!
