Owner description: Located just a straight shot south from downtown Nashville, quaint downtown Franklin is the perfect sleepy Southern town. Visitors can easily spend a day browsing antique shops and boutiques and dining at one of its many ecelctic restaurants. Downtown Franklin offers an eclectic mix of antique shops, gift and book stores, art galleries and clothing boutiques. Franklin hosts several festivals each year.

We arrived in Franklin in the early evening and decided around dusk to go downtown. It felt very safe and comfortable. For a weekday evening, we were surprised at the number of people out and about or dining. It was so nice! The next morning we arrived downtown before the Visitor Center opened so we started walking around and reading the historic plaques. Obviously a community that is very proud of their history - and not just their Civil War history. And to make the experience even more enjoyable, a whole bunch of free parking!

This is a quaint little town that is easily walked. Nice shops and friendly people. Plenty of restaurants. Nive atmosphere.

Franklin is the county seat of Williamson County, the richest county per capita in TN and one of the most affluent in the country ... which explains why downtown Franklin is very well-kept, compared to many towns this size throughout most of the South. The downtown, however, lacks a nice courthouse square ... where the business district surrounds a nice courthouse or city hall. Columbia and Pulaski, TN are better examples of that. The are lots of antique shops an little retail business in downtown Franklin full of nice and rather pricey nic-nacs. The Franklin Theater is a major plus in the downtown area and there is plenty of free parking around the downtown core. That said, the downtown ... and much of Franklin ... can be a traffic nightmare.

There's always something going on downtown Franklin. It's a great hangout spot, date spot and just walk around spot, too. With Sweet Cece's, Puckett's and all the shops you could want or need - who could go wrong?

We attended the art fair and visited the shops. Loved the town! There are a lot of great shops. We didn't have a chance to eat in town but the restaurants looked nice.
