I was very impressed by the actions of the McGavock family both during the battle and afterwards, the cemetery is a wonderful tribute to those soldiers that died on that day, as well as the McGavock family whose lives that day were changed forever, but still showed the endeavour of the human spirit lives within us all, sometimes it takes a tragic scenario to bring it forth

Very humbling experience. Brought to life how many lives were lost. Well maintained and done in a very respectful way.

Any visit to Carnton Plantation must be accompanied by a visit to the Confederate Cemetery. This is an absolute must for any Civil War enthusiast, and even if you're not a Civil War "nut", the cemetery at Carnton will leave you speechless. You can enhance your visit by first checking out any one of a number of books or DVDs available that tell the stories of some of the 1,496 soldiers buried here who died at the Battle of Franklin.

So sad to read the memorial plaques, so many young men died in the course of 2 days. How desperate their last hours must have been. Puts the whole Battle of Franklin into focus.

After reading "The Widow of the South" we had to come and see this memorial that she put together and maintained for so long a period.
