“A Gem”
Reviewed August 9, 2013

I probably wouldn’t have ever noticed or found this neat place if I hadn’t been visiting a friend in Erwin and he took me there. It’s in the heart of downtown Erwin on, of course, Main Street. It’s not just a restaurant. It’s a repository of model train layouts that actually run. It’s antiques, pictures and very good food. Owner Brenda is a gracious host and treats you like family. Worth the effort to find it!!

“UNIQUE Dining”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

The Choo Choo is part antique store, part museum and part restaurant. I say "part" because it's hard to say what you'll find when you find it open. The owner is charming and her food always good. She cooks what she likes that day and you'll probably like it too. Definitely worth a visit. Have eaten here three times and always delighted.

“Interesting and historic”

O
This was originally the Clinchfield Railroad company store. The train models and the miniature village displays adds a lot to their atmosphere.

“A True Experience in Dining”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We knew nothing about the Choo Choo Cafe apart from having noticed a large-scale model railroad in the window as we drove by. We had hiked on the Appalachian Trail all day and were more tired than hungry. So we phoned the cafe from our room and asked if they were serving dinner. The answer was yes, until it runs out. Our curiosity aroused, we arrived at an establishment that is like none we had ever seen: part antique store, part informal cafe with lighted and moving model layouts of winter scenes decorating various corners and walls. The night's dinner was spaghetti and garden salad, served by the gracious proprietor. And she's a terrific baker: my wife had her freshly baked orange cake for dessert while I chose the equally fresh triple chocolate cake. Then there was the entertainment. The lead singer in a low-cut, short-skirt dress played acoustic guitar while the other three of the group played electric instruments. The guitarist was particularly good, and we later learned he was a music instructor at East Tennessee University and the others were his students. Wow! What an enjoyable experience we blundered into!
