Ellie's Catfish Cafe is located just off U.S. 27 in Dayton, Tn. From the moment you arrive and seated you will be served with good ole Southern hospitality. A big bowl of white beans, hot hushpuppies, slaw, tomatoes and onions will be promptly put before you.

The catfish, a specialty was the best. It is very lightly breaded and the portion sizes are generous. The fried okra was delicious and also very lightly breaded. Vegetables are available as side orders.

This restaurant was a great find.

We were seated right away and before we even got the menus out, the "fix-ins" were brought to the table. The "fix-ins" were: white beans & bacon, cole slaw, corn fritters, pickles and onions. They were served family style and were as much as you can eat. The waitress was right there filling when they were emptied. The corn fritters were excellent, the cole slaw was very good, as was the white beans. The menu is: Catfish, shrimp and chicken. You can have one or mix and match. We both had the catfish and shrimp. You get to pick one more side with your dinner and the choices were good: toss salad, mac & cheese, green beans, fries, okra and more than I can remember. My husband had the mac & cheese which he said was very cheesy & good. I had the toss salad which was a good size and fresh. The catfish was two good size fillets and about 12 shrimp. All were lightly battered and cook perfectly. We were very satisfied with the meal. We will be back. If you like catfish & shrimp, give this a try and as a plus, the "fix-ins" are great as well.
