The water was warm, lots of sites to see. Several islands that accommodate your hiking, picnicking, even camping. Come enjoy.

Stopped here on our trip to the Smokies this summer. We drove over to the Douglas Dam overlook area where you could catch a glimpse of the lake from above. There were picnic tables and grills here should you want to picnic at the Dam.

After that we drove Douglas Dam Rd around passed the Dam Store where we picked up Boat Launch Rd towards the Mountain Cove Marina. Here you can drive across a cement barrier around part of the lake. We did this for a short distance, but turned back and headed back up Boat Launch Rd towards the TVA Douglas Headwater Campground. Here there is a hiking trail, public boat ramp and a public swimming beach/hole (see separate review) in conjunction with the campgrounds. We went swimming in the lake here. It was a nice place to cool off and watch the boats cruise the lake. We saw several people tubing on the river that day & it looked like lots of fun. We considered renting a boat from the Marina, but pocketed that idea for another trip.

Overall, a beautiful lake with many opportunities for swimming, fishing, boating, bird watching, hiking, camping, etc in addition to visiting the Douglas Dam. There are several restaurants in Dandridge that sit on the lakeshore and provide views of the lake too IF that is something you are interested in too!

Drove up to the upper viewing area of the dam. Very quiet setting and great place to relax & take in the views.

Wife and I had never been there before, so we thought we'd pick up some fast food and go take a look. It was a pleasant (and not long) drive to get there. It has parking for visitors, but is not huge, by no means. Our visit was only about an hour, and we got out of the car and sat on one of the benches to eat. Looked at the dam and surrounding trees and lake for a while and then took a small paved surface road down close to the lake and nearer to the dam and sat for a few minutes watching the birds who seemed interested in the dam also.Overall, a pleasant experience, although, if you are the kind of person who wants to be busy always doing something, this might not be for you. It's more for those who just want to get out for a little peace and quiet and just 'do nothing'. It's sort of like going to a park and just sitting on a park bench to relax, look at the scenery, enjoy the sun and breeze, and daydream (or possibly even dose off for a nap if you if you close your eyes for more than a few minutes).

Beautiful lake for fishing, boating, skiing, tubing and family fun. Exceptional view. The lake is so big that you don’t have a lot of other boats around you which makes for great skiing and tubing. Plenty of good fishing areas, we caught bass and crappie. Lots of water fun.
