I live in a MAJOR metropolitan area, so it's not like it's tough to find Indian food. But this is simply the best I've ever had. We spent the night in Cookeville primarily to eat here.
Exit 287 off of I-40 in Cookeville has the most restaurants I've ever seen in one place. Name the chain, and it's here. Block after block of chain restaurant. Our hotel "nearby restaurant" page had 32 of them listed, and they didn't scratch the surface. Drive by them all, drive through downtown, and eat here.
It's in a two store strip mall. Old school booths, a few tables, and a steam table for the lunch buffet (which we've never had), a cash register, and that' about it (though we did learn they have a private room which can accommodate parties of 50).
But the food is to die for. When you walk in the door, you're hit by the aroma of Indian spices. It's heavenly. They've got a pretty good menu,. and everything we've had has been perfect and wonderful. Large portions of everything. They've a limited alcohol menu, but the Flying Horse beer is tough to find other places and very good.
It's a mom & pop. He's cooking; she's waiting tables. So, it's not a 5 minute meal. But they cook everything to order, so the few extra minutes you'll spend waiting is worth it.
It's not a chain. It's two folks cooking just like they do for their family, and the food is just spectacular.
